Napit website design

Hi guys,

Have any of you had a call from web ahead internet, they called saying they are working with napit.

They will design a website for free for you as long as you pay the hosting ect at £150 a year. Unlimited emails address etc.

Is this a con? And is it good value compared to what you guys use?

another money grabbing idea lol, build your own, you can get a domain name and hosting from 3-99 a month for a 2-3 page web site, it is about 10-20 a month for a bigger site run by others, sounds like they are using the napit name to drum up business lol

I have just phoned up napit to check that web ahead internet are affiliated with them and they are not.

It is a con.

Do not use them or give them any details, the guy i spoke to said his name was dwane and sounded professional and didnt pressure me for money, he had all my details, address, phone number and email. His own website is reasonably basic, not what you would expect from a web design company.

Hes going to call me back tomorrow to take payment, anyone got any good ideas for pranks etc. my usual response to these is swearing but id like to see if anyone has anything more creative to say to him.

My first question will be how did he get my details, and if he doesnt hang up i want to have some fun with him, any suggestions?

Normally i do but this guy had all my details and said he was part of napit, so i believed him at first, but i never give out my bank details on the phone unless i am sure they are genuine, so i looked him up and phoned napit and its all a con.

I get 2 years domain and hosting from streamline.net for £60 plus I bought Serrif Webplus 5 for £25 to build it and I have about 20-25 pages

All the contact details are on the NAPIT website in the consumers area. All he has to do is to trawl though and find whjo does not have a web site, them call them up.

Slightly off-topic but i've recently had a call from someone pretending to be some sort of customer services at halifax bank....he had the most jamaican accent ever and the name steve white lol. Needless to say i hit the end call button straight away after that.

My point really is 9/10 times phonecalls from these sorts of people are con's. They may not ask for your money straight away, but it'll be leading up to it at some point.

These so called 'cold-callers' are seemingly getting worse over the past 18months, i at least get 2/3 a week now. Annoying.

That sounds about as diplomatic as it gets.....

I had one this morning he told me a name and a company and then i said that this number doesn't receive cold calls. He apologized and said thank your for your time and i said you're welcome and put the phone down.

You do get some who attempt to quiz you as to why you won't be receptive to their intrusiveness. and they always phone you just after you have been on the phone. The con artist's usually withhold their number and those who don't are usually from call centres abroad where the number is unobtainable.

I used to work with a chap who used to pick the phone up and go straight into ' This is Jim Rockford's answering service. Please leave your name and number and we'll get back to you' sounded just like the real thing. The problem was when we had genuine customers on the other end, there was a lot of phoning back with apologies.

Here is a tip I put on my contact section of my site that i will not accept cold calls but if they do call I save their number if they leave it and put it under Sales 01 02 03 and so on so when they do call back and they do I can just ignore it then they get the message
