Discuss no earth terminal. what would you do? in the UK Electrical Forum area at ElectriciansForums.net

20mm? Don’t you mean 3/4”? Was imperial back then.

Lost count of the number of drills and M4 taps I bust when rewiring old farmhouses. They all wanted to keep the old switches, so had to earth all the old boxes.
oerlikons were foreign, so 20mm.

Should have put a metal switch plate in.
Then you could have taken the CPCs to the switch plate and the back box would be earthed through the screws.
thatwould be a solution but customer wants plastic. metal/chrome accessories would add a couple of hundred on the job.

Not a full solution, methinks. earth the face plate...remove it and...
BANG!
Mind you, I always wanted hair like Art Garfunkel...

well, i'm not going to give you dililah, even if it is the best cover alex harvey did and SCFC anthem, so how about coming upwith a song with Olga or Grazynya in the title???? hmmmm. :D:D:D.

Gotta disagree Tel .... this is the best cover that SAHB recorded ....

Lucien's tip is one of my go-to methods, together with a couple of other, tidy remedial additions...but Tel did what he did, with what was handy, and then had the sand to tell us and post the pics

He could have stud welded a SS terminal block...he could have not bothered doing anything...somewhere in the middle,is where most of us are :)

But you would not remove any plate without carrying out the safe isolation procedure (or so the standard response to this kind of comment goes)

would be nice to do that, but box nailed in, 1950's plaster tight round box. getting box out would lead to the room needing redecorating. sometimes you need to balance the costs. already re-used the original capped channels to save chasing.

So let them redecorate.
Do you really think it is better to place a persons life at risk than leave them facing the cost of re-decorating?

"anyone who claims to know everything is a liar and a heathen"
True, but in my retirement I have learnt so many songs that I can now confidently say that if you give me a name, boy or girl, I can find a song with that name in it...and because I am an old git, I know I have done this before!
Anyway, leave a safe job...Tel, you did.
Happy birthday to......
