Can anyone tell me if the installation of outdoor lights (PIR wall mounted) is notifiable work? I came accross a document that suggests that, as long as there are no outside connections other than the final connection with the fitting, then the LABC don't have to be notified. Is this the case or am I clutching straws?

Approved Document P of the Buiding Regs 2000

General Guidance, Page 9, Para i: says you are right providing that

No outdoor connections
Work does not involve the installation of a new circuit

or

Extension of a circuit in a kitchen or special location or associated with a special installation

Alas, this is perhaps where my hopes are dashed as the lights are to be fitted to the outside of a detached garage which I think is a special location? I would therfore be into the extension of a circuit...... etc. Am I right?

Jay, I have great pleasure in telling you that you are wrong, buildings on land associated with the main building fall under the requirements of Part P, but that does not make them into special locations

A new circuit into a garage would be notifiable, as would an extension of, say, a kitchen ring into the garage, but if you are extending the existing garage circuit, then whilst it is still under Part P, it is non-notifiable
