Sorry for the tons of pat q's recently
I have no idea why i'm getting loads of pat enquiries lately...as previous thread, Indeed I'm sick, because I had to turn down a 2000 appliance job (they needed starting this week) I couldn't do, so anyhow today a firm called (bank holiday!) and asked could i give a 2 year next test date warrenty...not been asked that before, its an it suite / offices /warehouse

At first I was thrown into confussion...err, err..dunno, I'll call ....then it got me thinking. btw the guy told me the company that did the previous, a well known national, they charge £2.79 per appliance if over 200....

They have approx 1200 appliances
So reading between the lines, in effect, these guys want the stuff covered for half the price

I have no probs covering it equipment for 2 years, many are laptops anyhow, so just the lead. My concern is power hungry stuff, like kettles, microwaves, ovens...and to a lesser extent, vending machines, tv's, dvd's etc....

I don't know why (except hire shops, builders 6-months) I always give 12 months.

It was just the way it was, and ok 12-months

Anyhow, these guys are major, to be honest I would give 36-months on most of their equipment, I know its losing work in the short run, but at say £3 per item is lucrative,,,and to be real, justified

2 years for it equipment seems perfectly reasonable to me...and as they say its business

Class 1 equipment in an office environment is 24 months for portable, and moveable equipment and 48 months for it and stationary hand held is every tweleve months so you could do it every two years and the hand held as a freebe after 12 months and charge for them again on 24 months.

Have a look at page 34 of guidance.

Hope that helps

Chris

If I'm getting this right, they are asking you to come in now and test everything and you will charge them £x.xx per item to do this. Anything which you deem to warrant a retest before 24 months from now, you will then retest effectively for free when that retest is due. With the type of environment (presumably an office) you are talking about, I would be well happy to get £2.50 per item for work like that on 1200 items. Are you sure they said £2.79 per item and not £0.79 per item? Because I was under the impression the big boys (label stickers) typically do it for 79p per item on large quantities.

Nope £2.79 is the cost, I don't know if label stickers, I have not seen test sheets if any, the company realise imho they are being took to the cleaners so to speak. All they asked is 24 month (if possiblwe) cetrts. If not how much for 12 months, I think their main concern is disruption (they also asked could i worrk nights)
