Apologies if these are common knowledge, but I've not come across them, but hoping they exist.

I'm after a standalone dimmer that lowers the output of some lights as natural sunlight to the room increases, so that the light is always pretty much a constant but we save money when it's sunny. Any ideas? I know you can get them built in to some fittings but I'm looking to retrofit one or two to see how it works.
 
Look up daylight dimming or daylight harvesting. Danlers do them amongst others but you will need to check on compatibility. Like you say, they usually tend to be featured in interlinked lighting systems as part of a package.
