Hi I'm running a new consumer unit in my shed for 2 lights and 4 sockets. Would I be ok running 6mm swa cable from a 40A mcb from a duel rcd board thanks Simon

Unless the shed is next to the house, and even then I'd reconsider, I generally wouldn't RCD the SWA. The SWA doesn't need it, but the final circuits do; give them their own RCD or RCBO in the shed CU. Re earlier replies, Distance (volt drop) and demand ( design current) and de future (up grades) will help determine conductor size.

This shed /garage saga never ceases to amaze me on this forum, do we actually have electricians in the UK these days, or are they all electrical trainee's that haven't a bloody clue what they're doing!!

It's a good question engineer54!

I would say that generally about 90% of the recent alterations I encounter (brown&blue cables) are absolute carp.
