Hi,
Does anyone know whether there's any technical reason why a BG dual-RCD (flexible) consumer unit could not be rebuilt as a mirror image i.e. left hand main switch.

Do the RCDs work with L & N swapped?

I would say if terminals are specifically marked on Rcd. I wouldn't do it. I believe it can cause issues with internal resistor when test button operated. Can you not extend or renew tails ?

I probably don't need to replace tails - just wanted to make it look nice. If there's even the remotest chance of a problem then it's not worth the risk.

I think you're right - the test button basically replicates a L-PE fault. A N-PE fault won't necessarily cause a trip.

best answer would be to phone BG Nexus at Telford.

Thought the test button connected L and N through a small load to create an imbalance in the RCD ring resulting in a current in the sense coil creating a magnetic effect that trips the switch. (Could be wrong, I've not done any theory lessons for a while)
