I need to replace a 2 way consumer unit in a garage that has been damaged. I intend to replace it like for like not upgraded, everything the same as the original. Is this notifiable under part P or could it come under the minor works certificate.

minor. not subject to part pee, as it's a like for like replacement. MWC is optional, but, IMO, advisable.

I thought the replacement of the CU was notifiable?
upgrading a CU is, of course, notifiable, as you say, but a like for like sub, maybe not. best ask the niceic and get 4 different answers.

Items replaced under "maintenance" conditions are not notifiable under part P. Replacing a "damaged" CU is maintenance.

Did one my self the other week - old Wylex, customer had broken the main switch!

So next time somene goes to change a a CU hit it with a hammer and say it is maintenance, another job of the notifiable list then.

Edit: just to clarify, hit the old CU not the one you will be installing in its place.

ha ha ha.........

Mind you, hit one of the old metal Wylex units and the blxxdy hammer will bounce off - unlike the crxp MK sell these days.

Interesting, you could do an rewire, replacing like for like "damaged cables", not notifiable. lol

Replace damaged cables
Re new the broken consumer unit
Replace damaged accessories
Is upgrading the earthing and bonding notifiable ?

If its not notifiable we then have the full package
Part P, don't you just love it

Notifiable, defo.
and why would you replace an old Wylex with another old Wylex, considering the cost of a modern board, unless none of the circuits need RCD protecting?

Best you re-read the relevent docs.
the part P doc I have just says "replacing a consumer unit is notifiable", it doesn't make reference to anything "like for like". What does yours say? Could be a grey area? Might depend on if it's a detached garage or not?

Non Notifiable Work
Section 2.7
Regulation 12(6A) sets out electrical installation work that is notfiable. All other electrical installation work is not notfiable - namely additions and alterations to existing installations outside special locations, and replacement, repairs and maintenance anywhere.

The key is the last sentence "maintenance" - so when I replaced a CU recently, where the homeowner had broken the main switch, it was clearly maintenance work.

If it was maintenance (like for like), why didn't you just change the switch?
