Im not sure if your aware but Edmunsons have written a formal complaint to Schneider with regards to the fact that they buy direct from Schneider to sell onto us but the likes of other wholesalers CEF for example are purchasing in the EU and bringing them in themselves now this means that Edmunsons is getting undercut bigstyle and losing trade now although nothing illegal has been commited here Schneider also see's they are losing profit.
The new range of gear will come with traceable ID and if you purchase a Schneider new range product they will only guarantee gear that has not been bought indirect and brought into UK after.

Considering Schneider are- Merlin, Square D, Telemecnique etc this will have a ripple on effect when they introduce new ranges to these brands ....... personally i told my wholesaler ive never return a Merlin product as faulty so im really dont care but as a customer covered by the 1979 customers rights act im protected with my purchase from the wholesalers but te wholesalers wont be if they dont purchase direct so they will be forced into buying direct thus prices go up across the ranges.

Edundsons also stated that the range of stock bought in the EU wouldn't comply to BS standards and this other wholesalers are commiting an offense but as im aware the mcb's etc are made exactly to the same standards and it just Edmundsons trying to justify their argument.....

Now i stress this hearsay but i did already know of the practices going on and why the like of Bennet and Fountain and Edmundsons etc could not give me a better discount on said products to their annoyance....

So anyone pricing for work in the pipeline just make sure you get quotes from wholesalers to work off especially if using the new range.

Surely if it has a BS-EN number then it complies with all EU legislation and as the UK is part of the EU.........

Interesting this , as Edmunsons have always been my cheapest supplier for square d in the past but recently Senate are undercutting them .

Its also mainly to stem a black market that is fast rising in counterfit goods and as i said it isn't illegal but Schneider are realising they can ID every item and make it traceable they can direct the market of there goods and thus increase profits too ....

Although the new range has added extra's like trip indictors so you know it hasn't just been switched off im keen to see just how this will effect things pricewise but glad i dont use Eddie's or id be ringing the bosses and throwing the dummy back in their pram .... having said this i believe its a move most brands will follow to make sure the fake market is kept at bay.

The ironicy of it is, is that i can buy a rcbo Merlin at cef cheaper than Eddie's buy from Schneider..... in effect i can supply them cheaper than the manufacturers... The real issue here is we live in a common EU market yet prices are always higher in UK than other EU countries for no reason other than we will pay higher prices... it has nothing to do with pound, the Euro or any logistical costs now if schneider gave us the same deal as other EU members this wouldn't have occured.

This is Schneider and their price-pointing in different countries that's to blame. All manufacturers are guilty of it and unfortunately it's the legitimate local agents that suffer when others import their own from elsewhere. It's gray market rather than black market and it's going to continueas long as manufacturers use the outdated business model in order to try make a few extra bucks.

If the product has been bought within the EU, it would be against the trading regulations to refuse warranty on those goods. They don't as far as i know, manufacture goods for specific EU countries, only non EU countries like the US etc, that use different time/current tripping curves and the like. So how they would ID them, as being UK sourced?? I don't know.

As for returning MG products, i don't think you, or come to that, most here, would believe the amount of returns of MG type RCD devices that have been made on my past projects.... They are just as fallible as any other manufacturers RCD's... I must admit though, that other MG/Schneider, products, and that includes MV products as well as the LV products that we use almost exclusively, have very little to zero return numbers.

In a past life I was involved in the importation of grey market cars from Europe, a lot of Ferraris, mostly out of warranty LHD, but occasionally we sourced brand new RHD vehicles. In the late 90's it was deemed illegal for a manufacturer to refuse to supply a country specific ( eg a UK model) from any other EU state. VAT could be paid in either country, but you would be liable for any duty in the end user country. VW were fined £20M for price fixing in 2001. I'm sure Schneider wouldn't want to go this route?

I don't understand this as European law states otherwise if you remember 20-30 years ago where people went to Europe and ordered right and drive cars because the were 25-30% cheaper and the big manufacturers who were trying to stop it were pulled up by the European court they could be charged with running a cartel and told bluntly that they could not stop free trade between member countries.

They were also instructed that they must honor the warranty on the car as well so this applies to everything ie if you buy a laptop in the UK and then move to Spain and it breaks down the the laptop manufacturer Spanish division must repair it a bit like if you buy the laptop in London and move to say Belfast.

Edmundsons should do what the rest are doing plus they should complain to the European court

The whole ethos behind the setting up of the common market was" to allow for the free movement of goods and chattels between member countries" unfortunately it was not only governments that were not keen on this idea! As far as i am aware the only thing that is supposed to affect a warranty when a product is used in a different country from which it was purchased is things like supply voltage for electrical goods and fuel type in engines, many years ago i visited holland and was amazed at the better quality tools that were available at prices much cheaper than here in the UK.as others have said surely this cannot be soley down to tax.
