Hi all, parents in law have been victims of crime at their home numerous times in the last few years. Last night they had an attempted break in at 3.30am. The 2 who were trying to break in ran away when they set the home alarm off as they managed to open the back door after breaking the lock.

They have installed cctv and numerous outdoor lights since the previous attempted break ins. Unfortunatly the cctv wasn't very clear and the g
police have been little help.

I have been today to install more motion lights but tbh, they don't do anything positive.

Is there any good products on the market that can offer good early detection of people moving around a property? Preferably one that is able to tell the difference between an animal and a person.

To get a system that can tell the difference between people and animals you would really need it to have video analytics it then comes down to how much you want to spend

Some of the Hikvision systems have really good AI software. They can discriminate between people and animals etc and can also do things like generating a report of all people moving towards the property (for example). Very very good , but also very expensive.

I've got a pretty extensive setup with multiple Nest outdoor cams. You pay a ÂŁ10 subscription service and get all the analytics done at Google server level and then instantly sent back - people/animal recognition, facial recognition, voices, barking... and instant alerts to a phone. But..... you pay for it. Reckon my system has now cost me well over ÂŁ1k, in stages. But we're rural and I'm away a lot so it's peace of mind.

If they are iPhone/iPad users then I can highly recommend the Logitech Circle View camera.

It can tell the difference between people, animals, vehicles and parcels and even does face detection so you can recognise family vs strangers. Everything is securely stored in the Apple iCloud account via HomeKit Secure Video and so is more secure and private than most other services. This is the only reason I will allow a camera in or around my home.
