Hi,

I have been asked to quote on a small workshop which has only single phase power points. I have limited experience with this type of work but am trying to learn so please forgive me if my questions seem basic. They have asked for 9 x 230v rcd double sockets, 7 x 110v commando sockets and 4 x 16a 230v commando sockets. Do the commando sockets need to be RCD protected too?

I am planning on putting the 230v RCD sockets on a ring, will the 16a sockets need to be on seperate radials? Or can I put more than one on a circuit? Still waiting for more information on loadings.

I am assuming the 110v sockets will need to have a fixed transformer would one be enough to run all 7 x 110v commando sockets?

The drawing I am working from is very poor and basic. They have emergency stop switches located by each 110v socket and one controlling 2 x 230v rcd sockets is this normal practise?

Any help would be much appreciated.

I would advise you to work with an electrician who is qualified and experienced in this field, rather than guess how to do it with help from a forum. If you get a system like that wrong, you could end up in a whole world of pain.

i would suggest getting a 3.3kva 230-110v fixed transformer.. depends on what the workshop? i would apply a big diversity factor with them i have just fitted 9 110v sockets and i just ring mained it, i suppose you could use it as a radial if you wire it in 4mm2. p.s what length is the workshop?

e-stops depends what the machines or workshops is running i suppose, if i was you i would consult the regs to check before carrying out any work (i.e for instance a bandsaw does it have to have an e-stop? etc )

Thanks,

The transformers I have seen online have the 110v sockets on the front. However the drawings show the sockets mounted on the walls around the workshop

The workshop is 10x15mtrs. How do you put them on a ring whilst transforming them down to 110?

Thanks again

I'm with Guitarist on this bud. I can't comment on your overall experience within the electrical industry as I don't know you but you clearly have no experience working with this sort of stuff. My advice would be to get some help from someone with experience, do the job between you and this will give you a great opportunity to learn from someone with the right knowledge. What's your location? Maybe someone on here would be happy to help. Take the work, price the job, keep the custom but please let someone else lead on this.

As others have said could you not get some help with the job, depending where you are based someone on here may be able to help. I do industrial and commercial work every day but would not feel comfortable trying to talk you through it on a forum. I know by sharing the job you will not make as much money, but will gain a wealth of knowledge, which will help you going forward with similar installs in the future.

I agree 100% I have done domestic and small commercial work for 15 years but have no problem asking for help when needed as I am the first to admit this is not my area of knowledge. I never take on anything if I feel I cannot deliver a proper job. I have someone who I have in mind to help with the install however they are away on holiday, typical! I am only really asking these questions for pricing purposes, however I need alot more info from the client to give a solid price.

The job is in Kingston Surrey if anyone is interested in giving me a hand? Starting in about a week if I get it....

Good to hear that you are open to having some help, as too many so-called electricians just seem to blag their way through a job (we've all had to follow them). As GMES says, it's a bit too complicated to talk through on a forum.

but will the y travel 4000 miles ?

Forum back link building. Annoying but efficient. It will most likely be a bot of some kind or even a low payed DE clerk working for a SEO company that has written that.
