As BS7671 makes no mention of domestic smoke and heat detectors where on the EIC should they go, aside from the old own circuit/ shared with light circuit debate, a discussion with the BCO has prompted this,

The come under BS5839 Part 6....not debate or conflict with BS7671 or Approved document B.
Domestic smoke if fitted to Grade D (mains/battery backup) can be installed on existing lighting circuit or on there own circuit choice is yours. The form of safe isolation is achieved by the removing the detector from the base using key or tool (screwdriver).
As stated they should be certified both to BS 7671 and BS 5839-6. So two certificates should be involved with a smoke alarm installation (or possibly more if multiple Minor Electrical Installation Works Certificates are involved, e.g. with a retrofit installation with radiolink).
