My Job is easy, I get to periodically inspect schools all the time and lets face it, anyone can slag someones work off, however I am not like that and understand we all have problems we need to address, however I recently inspected 2 schools in gloucester which has had some work carried out to them by NICEIC companies, here are a couple or so pictures for your amusement

picture 1, how about this for mechanical protection, this heater is in the school dining hall and was installed 11 months ago by a huge well known company

This is in the childrens cloakroom area

this is work from a company who installed 40 off peak heaters, I have replaced all spurs now, but 25 were burned out, the guy who did the job used the wrong sized screw driver

and this is a recently installed Distribution board, the electrician installed it too close to the left hand wall and couldn't get a screw in to secure the lid lmao

so as you can see being in the NICEIC is very impressive

Yes pretty appalling, I even checked the wall out behind the plastic so called copex and there was no sign of rawplugs, obviously they didn't feel the need to at least fix it to the wall :50:

Mind you that plastic flexi pipe is in 2 halves and you have to click it together, it may have been a better job if they actually used copex.

"big known companies" got couple of boys NICEIC registered to sign the jobs they havent seen, and whole lot of Far Eastern European labourers doing the actual job :(

well i`d have made a note of that...(if containment was intact..but not securely fixed) anyway.....a (3)
but as is...well....
those FCUs are appalling....`wrong driver`..eh?...no excuse is that...just bone idleness is that...
mounting a panel without checking clearance means its now failed visual on barriers & enclosures....

ooh, I went to town on the Job with my periodics and gave them some prices to put all works right, hopefully I will get the Job and the company concerned will have to pay the schools

happy days then......so with a bit of luck these emptyheads will have been installin all over the area you cover.....not bad coming up to christmas eh?..lol....

The heaters are 2.5 kw, the fused spurs burned out, I have already changed them all for MK spurs and used the right driver, several heaters had to have new flex installed as well as no slack was left and it was too dangerous to re-connect, you can't beat a good spark lol

I do 20 periodics every year in schools and am pretty realistic, but sometimes you just have to tell the customer things are just not right and improvements are required

yes well i`m also a believer in being a bit sympathetic/pragmatic whatever with folk`s property....and theres the stuff you can get away with.....but this...

Very true Glenn, it is the easiest job in the world to slag off someones work, usually I avoid doing so, it is not right really, the thing which upset me though on this occassion was the flexible conduits to the heaters, not in the cages and no fixings, to make things worse primary school kids tugging at them, dear oh dear oh dear, I couldn't let that go.

Don't understand how sparks like that can walk away thinking they have done a good job....... No excuses.... Do it properly or not at all!

yeah agree, still suprised at the flexi conduits every time I look the pictures, I just can't believe they let it float about like that in a school dining hall, pretty crap work really, theres just nothing good to say about it I'm afraid.

Ok, I just have to ask. The council electrical engineer that gave the contractor the work and was over-seeing the project. Was he blind? Or was it one of those self funding schools where they suit themselves?

A good point, the job had a 5% retention held over it for a 12 month period, the job was completed 11 months ago, the school however handed over all the money after they were told works were completed and the company concerned think the works are satisfactory, the school apparently are going to mention the Job to the county council and hope they force the electrical contractor to return to site and put the work right, I am awaiting news still of the outcome, I have been paid for the report and may never find out what happened unless I pop into the school again one day and talk to the head and take a look to see if they did return. There is a possibility I may be asked to go back and secure the cabling properly to the wall, time will tell.

i wouldnt let them back, and the power of goverment money being stole will make them pay for repairs....

I expect they will go back when the county coucil calls them about it through embarressment, I als expect the school will never release a retention early if they have works carried out on this Jobs scale again, the Job was a 30 grander, and this is what they got for their money.

but to the guy who gives out the work, needs sacked too, but then again its probably a mate, backhander

several companies priced the works, the company who did the job actually won the works by 800 pounds on a 30 grand project, the arcitechs running it had no electrical engineer involved and the school didn't know anything was amiss, when I went to do a inspection it was for the 4 yearly report required in the school on the main on peak system, in theory I need not have got involved with the off peak at 11 months old, but I couldn't let it go. I wonder how the contract manager of the company who handed the manuals over on completion will feel when he is called to explain this to his President haha.

well.....given all the squabbling and fighting for/snatchin jobs from under each others noses that`s goin on nowadays......folk`l end up walkin for that standard of `install`......
