I did 2365 L2 and L3 last year and also done 17th Edition. i have about a 1 year experience working on commercial sites. I am stuck as to how to progress from here as i have discovered its not as straight forward as other professions. My main question is, it possible to register for Part P and what kind of ECS card can i apply for? What do i need to be self employed ? Any ideas please...,

With your 2365 and 17th edition you can gain access to a Part P scheme now, I have spoken to Stroma and all they require is a Level 3 qualification (2365 is acceptable), public liabilities insurance, evidence of experience and two new circuits you have recently installed to be inspected by one of their site inspectors. The list is as below from their website, you do not need commercial or PAT qualifications if you are only undertaking domestic work.

  • Relevant qualifications for domestic, commercial and PAT work
  • Calibration certificates for your instruments
  • Public liability insurance for ÂŁ2million
  • Professional indemnity insurance for ÂŁ250K (if carrying out conditioning reports)
  • Electricity at Work Regulations 1989
  • Wiring Regulations BS 7671
  • On-Site Guide BS 7671
  • Your CV
  • 2 Passport size photographs

You can currently get an ECS Trainee Card, to qualify for the gold card you would need to convert the 2365 to an NVQ level 3 via the 2357 NVQ conversion unit and completion of an AM2.

Have you got NVQ3?

Only some domestic work is notifiable.

• the installation of a new circuit, whether at low voltage (typically 230 V) or extra-low voltage); or
• the replacement of a consumer unit (fusebox); or
• any alteration or addition to an existing circuit in a special location*, whether at low voltage (typically 230 V) or extra-low voltage.

:)
