As some of you already know I have recently passed my short course examination so call me a hypocrite if you wish.:blush5:

I've just been thinking over the whole situation that many Electricians have had to deal with due to the introduction of the 5 Minute Wonder.

Whilst I can fully understand and appreciate many arguments put forward, I still would have been a little daft not to choose this route in order to get one foot on the bottom rung of a very long ladder.

It was available, I took the opportunity and I passed.

Just because I have opted for this route it does not mean that I believe it is the correct route or one I would take again given the chance.

Many people say that these centres are nothing but a money spinner for the companies involved. I could not agree more.

Anyway, it seems that whilst there are so many negative posts on the forum regarding this topic I have never really seen anyone put forward a suggestion to tackle these centres?

Top of my list, given the fact that there seems to be MANY Electricians out of work, would be to get a large group together to perform something along the lines of a peaceful protest outside such centres.

Obviously if word got out to the local/NATIONAL newspapers beforehand it would be a great shame because there would be the massive risk of the public learning about the problem that you guys believe exists.

Perhaps a similar stance should be taken with regards to a more serious approach of enforcing Part P or campaigning to make the public more familiar with what it means to them?

It's all well and good tapping away at a few keys in front of a monitor, in the comfort of your own home whilst waiting for the phone to ring but why not dedicate a very little amount of time to think up constructive ways that will get people to listen?

There you have it, that's my small amount of time added. Anyone wish to build on it?

PS I hope this thread does not turn into another slating for those who have taken the same route as myself. You can't blame us for taking what was available... I hope members will work together and post what you believe would be a positive way of tackling the said problem.

Peace :builder:

No one on this forum slags off any bloke trying to better themselves fella - its just that these short courses do not teach anywhere near enough knowledge to the blokes on them. Its the courses that get slated not the blokes.

alarm man I'm afraid I don't see what is wrong with putting forward a constructive suggestion? Surely you can admit that it's probably a better suggestion than anyone else has put forward up until now?

:)

i dont get it to be honest, you have past a course, good, but i think your tone is a bit mocking, and to quote you

'''I'm sure if some of the old skool sparks who are no longer with us today could see what this trade was coming to they would be turning in their grave!'''

my old man has went to the great building site in the sky,old school spark he was,and he was just a spark but could design and install from drawings be it industrial, controls etc, also had a drawing board at home and done hand made drawings no cad those days, the industry is being dumbed down, its a fact,to someone who didnt know any different the electrical industry seems to be about domestic electrics..and being involved in industrial or controls work is specialist now, when it was the domain of the spark in the old days..

Chaps,

As has been requested, please try and make it a clean discussion, without it turning into another war.

If it does, Im going to have to ban handbags at the door, along with their owners.

Much obliged.

I don't actually give a monkey's, whether someone is time served, done a short course or just picked it up here and there.
All I'm concerned about is whether someone is competent.
