Hope everyone is good...Just got back from seeing a client where i have got the job of running a new circuit for some garden power and wall lights....just asked if she had any other quotes and was told that another sparky who is NICEIC had quoted as well but was £150 more for labour, fair enough but he also quoted £400 for NOTIFYING Building Control...WTF

I charge £45.00 pounds for LBC, and charge for the jobs has well. so if you think about it nowt comes cheap. When insurances, van and all the other thing that go with it.

did you see the quote ?

you better start getting on the band wagon then .
Yes......My quote was £600 Labour and to notify building control his was £750 + vat for Labour plus £400 to notify building control

not really ,when you take the consideration of the scams charge do you think it was done for free ,thank about it ,you spend more time doing paper work and extra pc ,paper work hour spent doing the scams LBC ,and all the carp that goes with it .
One circuit.....one hour to test and notify.....click click click done

I'll just keep it included in my quotes. It's not like I'm offering it as optional so no reason to quote it separately.
To me that is how it should be done.

It is a bit like non-business customers have to be given prices including VAT as they have no opportunity to reclaim it. I fully agree that your quoted price has to cover that work, but trying to split out mandatory work as an "option" is very much the Ryanair school of customer-screwing.

Agree. Client. ''I don't want to pay £400 so don't notify it''.

Are you sure the fella's NIC or just coming it? He might have to pay for a private notification.

not really, all certs done onsite. Takes 2 mins if that to notify. I think your £45 is not right, but its your business good luck to you for getting it.

I don't think anyone on here is against charging for your time and overheads to do a job. Factoring in £45 as the cost of what you feel is involved in supporting LBC notification is perfectly fine.

What I would object to is an "optional" cost that is not really a choice, not that your overall quote/bill includes your time and other expenses to do it.

When I started out I used to put issuing the certificate and part P notification as a separate item on quotes with around £40.00 against it, but when someone questioned it I realised that it's daft to make it appear optional when it isn't.

So now all my quotes include the same line about issuing a certificate (plus part P as required, but have £0.00 against it.

I suppose it could be included as an item if they insist on a quotation breakdown, as with 'completion certs provided'.

Mind you, I had someone asking for a quote breakdown
last week. Private car dealer so he can stuff that. Probably specialises in breakdowns.
Arthur Daley without the trilby, perhaps?;)
