theoretically, if i had a regular everyday 10amp 1 way switch. could i wire it to turn on 22x100w light bulbs at 230 volt supply all at once?

OR

255x typical 9w led bayonet?

you could, but the swicth would be close to it's max. so may not last lond, esp if it's a cheapo.

hmm, ok thanks. i imagine it would fail quickly and over heat, 2.2kw is alot of power.

but it wouldnt require a contactor in this instance?
i'd deffo consider a contactor. otherwise, why not use a 20A switch? cable capacity allowing.

If the switch is rated as 10AX then it is capable of switching a 10A inductive load this equates to approx 13-14A resistive.

I think the 10A rating is for inductive loads. Typically some electronic power supplies (not sure about LED bulbs) and filament lamps have higher inrush currents so you might be wise to limit the planned load to 5A nominal (or go with a 20A switch as suggested above).
