currently hanging around outside some toilets looking very odd with my laptop out on the interweb while actually waiting for the firmware to update on an inverter via bluetooth, which is located in a locked cupboard next to me.

Getting some funny looks, but it's ok I have my hi viz on...
 
That's not going to stand up in court as a plausible defence. You need to find a different wi-fi hotspot.
