I am considering trustatrader, are they any good. A mate of mine says they are rubbish, very expensive with little results and crap service. Has anyone any dealings with them?

your mate is right. just scams to fleece you.

I used 'rated people' for a short time when I started up. It got me some jobs, got me some good references, now I dont use them as I have a reputation.

I'm not sure how it works with trustatrader but with rated people you have to buy the lead. I think with trustatrader you pay to be on the site. Why not pay the minimum and give it a go, if it doesn't work for you then use the local paper to advertise in instead, which I found very good.

Good luck.

IMHO Trustatrader is used by the most penny pinching customers - the type who invite 3 or 4 and then get you to discount your quote.

Also so look at ALL the 10 out of 10 ratings - pure fantasy

I've seen 2 mates in other trades nearly destroy their businesses by ONLY using trustatrade.

Put out all your eggs in one basket - do so at your peril

As others have said - avoid if you can. Customers tend to go for the cheapest quote, so you will end up selling yourself cheap. I have never joined any of the numerous incarnations of these type of website. But I have a few friends in Manchester that use them all the time. Something just tells me - gut instinct - they are wrong!

I can see HHDs point but regardless if you can scrape by without them do so.
