So I have an old pendent light. There was a 14/3 line and 2- 14/2 lines connected to a single light fixture. I re-wired it the same way back into a J-Box and then connected it to another 14/2 line ( so instead of it connecting to the pendant light it's connected to a new 14/2 line). That 14/2 line I connected to a new plug that I want to turn power on and off to a "plug in light" for under-mounted kitchen cabinet lighting. It has power running to the plug when I test it, but when I plug something in to it doesn't work. Some things to consider:
1). The red 14/3 line and two separate black/hot lines from the 2-14/2 lines are crimped together and taped
2). All of the white/neutral wires are connected together with one additional and single white/neutral wire crimped together for a total of 4 wires. This separate white/neutral wire was the white/neutral wire connected to the fixture and now its connected to the new 14/2 line referenced above that runs to the new plug as referenced above.
3). The black wire on the 14/3 was always connected to the light fixture by itself. Now its connected to the new 14/2 line as referenced above that runs to the new plug as referenced above.
4). There is two-three way switches connected to the plug (there always was).
So something I didn't tell you ...
When we bought the house the light fixture/pendant light in the inspection report never worked. I have checked every J-Box and connection in the entire house and replaced every switch in the house.
Whats going on here? How do I fix this?
Do I connect the red hot wire as referenced in #1 above to a new 14/3 line instead of a 14/2 line that runs to the plug? So that would means that only the two 14/2 black lines are connected and the red line on the old 14/3 line is just being extended to the plug?
