Music... Does anyone remember this? You know, the stuff that was around in the 80's..

Music died probably in the mid 90's and has never been heard of since. It's all just digitally remixed rubbish that has been done on a computer. Where did all the live bands go? musicians with real tallent and skill?

I really enjoy listening to music, when the house is empty I put my TV on, my Onkyo receiver, Jamo surround sound, switch the iPad on.... and play live concerts through my apple TV up on my big screen, volume right up.. This is the nearest ill ever get to seeing and hearing any proper music. It's absolute quality! (if you appreciate the sound of good music)

the 80`s stuff was great. I agree the 90`s were pants though. What bugs me is the radio stations churning out the same songs over and over. Leona Lewis`s Bleeding Heart was one of them. our local R/s`s played it till my ears hurt

That's why I stick to rock! Out in the 70's, great in the 80's, fantastic in the 90's & to this day, still lives on! The new rock stuff ain't as good as the classics though...Sabbath, Maiden, Lizzy, Aerosmith and so on. It will never die!

where i'm working, it's a huge steel warehouse. they have local r/s on all day, loud and echoing. moddern pop drivel, sounds like cats fighting. same old plugged songs, doing my head in. going to take in my ghetto blaster with rammstein cd. ( the main contractor is german, so should enjoy)

tpes your blooming right when was the last time you heard the inkspots or jim reeves on the radio its shocking
can do without that old moaner jim reeves. even his pilot couldn't stand his singing, and flew into a mountain to escape.

ok when was the last time you heard i love you for your nind not your body another classic thats never played

or al green that was the lp tp play when i got girls back to my pad mate worked every time still got the record its in pristine condition he he

I am in complete agreement with you. I appreciate it from a sound engineer's point of view as well as a musician's.

One of the live concerts I love to watch if and when I get the chance is by the eagles.

I cannot stand the stuff we hear on the radio these days. Even radio 2.

You are so right.

There's still a good load of proper music out there mate you just need to dig through mountains of computer generated crap to get to it. Motorhead are still around so as long as they're still going I know it'll be ok:)

You need to give radio 6 music a go.

It a bit like radio, but without the crap music and over exciteable presenters.

There's a station broadcasting on digital radio from Manchester that's well worth a listen if you can get it, they play all sorts of rock music from the late 60s right up to date

bumcrack, just just to give you the heads up and so you are aware there has been a crack down on offensive language recently however you modify the wording. It appears there have been bans issued.

Note 4 on THIS THREAD

No probs, I have edited. I didn't think that was particularly offensive, but then I don't write the rules!

Cheers

There is a Rock station here in Glasgow. It's now called Real XS. It was called Rock Radio but has been bought over. Musics still good & some of the original DJ's are there like Tom Russell but Father Ted is now gone...gutted!

How true that is
The talent is still there, but the industry itself is at fault for promoting the garbge that "it" decides that the public wants to hear, individual songs are as good now as any from the sixties and onwards

des i have to disagree from watcing x factor the talent is not there also the electronics usen in this industry now is unbelievable i did see on tv a group asked to sing live , it was awful but the record was quite good sorry it sounded good in that it sounded like they could sing. its all hype and money

cliff come back all is forgiven or release rolph's 2 little boys

The thing is Des, Kids are now force fed a diet of X Factor manufactured "stars" and the computer generated nonesense prepared by a geek in his bedroom. It seems like there's no such thing as real musicians any more (even though we know better) Yes some songs are still great, even though I'm a dyed in the wool metaller I have a lot of time for some modern music, but some od the stuff I hear coming out of my kid's bedrooms is just awful repetetive crap
How about a campaign to have Simon Cowell declared illegal:)

if it doesnt have guitars and drums it aint music...

Working on a building site once and one of the joiners brought an old guitar that he had found somewhere and he was strumming it as if he was a rock star.
He then gave it to another elderly joiner who knew how to play one, before long we were all huddled around him and mesmerised by his ability. Singing and playing the guitar to the song from an american werewolf in london and many others.

Acapella is awesome if done well (tuning is the first step in that direction followed by vocal tone).

So is a song with just a grand piano and a vocalist.

We just need to find a way to wean people off the stuff that is being churned out of the pop industry.

Went to see Deep Purple at NEC a fornight ago - Rock GODS! Fantastic, awesome gig. Just bought the CD (Live at Montreux 2011) too.

Been listening to Kerrang Radio and Planet Rock for about a year or so and they have renewed my faith in new rock, but it says a lot that the big successful rock tours are from the likes of AC/DC, Quo, Whitesnake, Leppard, Purple etc etc

I've had Ed Sheran in the van all week (well not him personally, just his cd) and to defend modern music he is brilliant. Who would have thought that a white, ginger hear 20 something could do suburban rap with a guitar! Double platinum album, just goes to show that a few of us can realise great music when we hear it.

As for most of the charts these days its all like nursery rhymes with a back beat and a sexy smile. People like Simon cowell are killing talented musicians and the people like us on this thread from hearing fantastic music that will stand the test of time.

Any way, I'm off now to put on "the best of West Life" cd to relax on a Sunday evening, might follow that up with JLS but their lyrics are too meaningful for me to comprehend.

In our local clubs we get "acts" people going round singing with generated electronic music, I dont disagree with comments about computer generated rubbish.

These "acts" always give better entertainment when accompanied, ie as part of a group who are generating their own music
(but its cheaper to pay for just the one entertainer,so the opportunities for groups has gone)

My point about songs of today,is that putting aside music presentaion as it stands, the writing of the songs and some of the singers are as good now as ever

Rap music excluded,I dont even consider that garbge as music,it should be re labelled modern poetry,it has no relationship to music as such

I very rarely hear something i like now, its all shouting/talking/rap crap

Absolute Radio 80's or Absolute Radio 90's for me on the

Makita Onsite DAB Radio :D

Rap used to be good Des, when it had a message. Now it's just a bunch of black guys talking about how cool they are and how many ho s the have. Oh and Eminem whining on about his problems with his mother/ex wife/ daughter

how about a wager here if little something win how long before one wants to go on and do it on her own ( i presume they make more money ) i say 2 years to the day they win if they do

what i dont understand about rap is when you watch the video they have half a ton of gold some good looking sortrs all around them and there still moaning about everything

Just think Alarm Man 2 of Little Minx are from our home town. Doesn't that make you proud?
It doesn't for me because Ginger from The Wildhearts is also and John Miles lives in Boldon

I have loved so many different music styles from Deep purple to Dolly parton,Snow patrol Leomard Cohen,Ac/Dc (well you have to if your a spark) Johanne Strausse to The Beatles and Stones and Kerrang station groups, who I can no longer name.but some of it is brill
Some of todays music rates alongside these for quality

I even liked Bob Dylan

until I found out it was HE who started Rap poetry and included it in a music album.I cant bring myself to call Rap "music"
It pains me to have to endure it in my home

have you heard them speak..they sound about 6yr old....tho i wouldnt mind taking tulisa down ocean road for a drink and a curry..

i blame x factor..in fact i blame the daft wench downstairs(aka the wife) for watching it,and all the other sheep who think little mix are a proper band...:evil2:

this is a band this is real music, not some manufactured x factor (insert own word) music for the masses rubbish....

Bush - Personal Holloway (Live at Bizarre Festival 1997) - YouTube

:rockon2:

A bit too heavy for me.. I can see individually they have talent to play there instruments, but all together.. It's a bit too much for me

Machinehead is an awesome song. Nothing wrong with a bit of Slipknot, System of a down or Pantera to wake you up in the morning!
