haha no mate just had a very interesting conversation with the owner and registered qualified supervisor of a local nic approved contractor.

had a call from someone who is buying a house and survey asked for electrical report to be carried out.

in steps said nic company to do a pir and to cut a long story short i was asked to look at the pir cert as buyers said all class 1 fittings have now been removed and offered to them in a box??

circuit details on pir clearly show 1mm cpc present in both lighting circuits??

that was the reason for the call and the response was astounding.

there is no cpc in lighting and the fact isnt mentioned let alone coded!!

but apparently that doesnt matter because they have install a new 16th edition cu, new earth rod and upgraded bonding and all this work is covered by the pir as no other cert is needed.

where would you guys go from here as i can feel a can of worms opening lol

Eic needed for the "new" 16th ed board, not a pir/eicr. Obvious mistake of putting down cpc size for 2 lighting circuits and they don't have a cpc = get them back in to do it correctly or you do it and charge accordingly, customers choice.

Whoever ordered the work should contact the NIC as this is quite wrong.

A PIR does what it says on the tin.....it's a report. It does not cover any work, see the guidance notes on the report itself!!
Then there's installing a 16th ed cu 3 years after 17th came out! I'm assuming you mean that lights etc have not been rcd'd despite buried cables.
Then they clearly didn't I&T properly if they've quoted a 1mm cpc (amd presumably an R1+R2 or Zs) when in fact there is none. That's basic.
Add in not understanding the certification requirements. Again, basic.

quite right pc, ive been asked not to attend site until their registered qualified supervisor has attended!!!!!

from the pir its clear they have installed a 16th board with up and down lights and garage on non rcd ways.

there are quite a few other discrepancies on the pir too, and not one item coded and install in satisfactory condition.

until i am asked to do my own report i think i will let them get on with it lol

little update for you on this one.

went round to have a quick look at the new board and found that there is a 100mA main switch then 20 amp mcb for the garage with the circuit leaving cu in t/e disappearing up into the floorboards with no 30mA protection. you cant trace cable as is obviously not visible.

all other circuits now have 30mA protection.

new board is 15 way with plenty of spares but shower is still fed from stand alone cu with tails split via henley.

there is also 3 cables coming out of the downstairs lighting mcb and 2 cables coming out of the upstairs lighting mcb??

they have already been back and rectified other problems but what would you do now as these are an approved firm??

Have they issued EIC for the alterations? They've changed the nature of the circuits in my opinion and therefore a new EIC is required.
Had my annual NIC visit yesterday and this very subject came up so I know for a fact that's what they'll require!

hi eggster,
yes they have now supplied an eic for the cu change, however its dated 16th jan 2012 when the board was changed 12th december 2011??

i seem to get different assessors each year, had Barry Richmond last year and he was very good.

my assessment is normally in march so should be hearing soon
