I won't buy from wholesalers who install - full stop. They'd have inside info on every job we do.

We do have local wholesalers who also install - they can't understand why we don't buy from them.

If you get stuff delivered to clients address or use a name referencing system they would know, although by then probably a bit late for them to do much about it.
Main problem is the undercutting.

Some installers get kits delivered directly to customers' houses. We did in the early days.

Everyone knows everyone's business where we are and installs are still obvious, when they go on. The natural progression is for neighbours to then install. If I use a local wholesaler/installer then who knows how many I could lose.

We have a local wholesaler to us that also installs. We were up against them a few weeks ago and one of the options they were offering was jaw droppingly cheap. I only buy from them when I absolutely have to.

Similarly, I don't buy from wholesalers that display their prices on their websites.
