What is an Escape Route ? .. i would think the whole house is an escape route depending were you are in the house.
I asked as i was doing some wiring for a friend (trying to learn a bit form the REAL WORLD)
putting in Power cables to the Lights and the Sockets
The Socket mainly went around the room, apart from one point were it went over a beam, along with Lighting. Problem being (Im guessing the floor is Wooden to a degree and the Roof is too) that in a Fire, (This being the bedroom, you would have to get pass all wood that the cables are tacked on to.

521.11.201 Wiring systems in escape routes.
Wiring systems in escape routes shall be supported such that they will not be liable to premature collapse in the event of a fire. The requirements of Regulation 422.2.1 shall also apply, irrespective of the classification of the conditions for evacuation in an emergency.
NOTE 1: Non-metallic cable trunking or other non-metallic means of support can fail when subject to either direct flame or hot products of combustion. This may lead to wiring systems hanging across access or egress routes such that they hinder evacuation and firefighting activities.
NOTE 2: This precludes the use of non-metallic cable clips, cables ties or cable trunking as the sole means of support. For example, where non-metallic cable trunking is used, a suitable fire-resistance means of support/retention must be provided to prevent cables falling out in the event of fire.

So to me, as i read it.
Can use Cable Clips but must be at least 2 means of Holding the Cable out of the way if all goes. I was thinking some metal clip all around to between two points so it could support the cable still, but it would be in the Roof area, Wood!. One side were the cables are going back to the CU, go via a Brick wall so you can support one there, but i'm not sure were you would support the other end so the cable doesn't hang, as all around is wood.

wiring above a plasterboard ceiling is supported by the ceiling as a fire resistant barrier.
