Hi All

Is there any Regulations on how far a local Isolator can be for the maintenance on a 3 phase motor

Regards

John

should be within line of sight of the motor. and reachable by the operator

No real distance that i know of but when an isolating device is installed remotely from the equipment it is meant to isolate, the device must be able to be locked in the OFF position.

Is that not emergency switching?
correct as usual. em. stops adjacent to machine, but regs. or not.i prefer to see isolators close to the equipment they control. who knows who else may have a key fits your lock off padlock if it's where you can't see the scroat turning it on?

Thanks for your input , It seems that common sence is the answer. So I will take the opportunity and install one by the motor :)

you will still need an emergency stop as well for emergency switching section 537.4
devices suitable for emergency stop controls are given in BSEN418
