that is good (May, you mean May-calm down)
This is why we are offering the solar edge systems now.

Do you know why the solar edge report gives an annual yield in Mwh and not kwh?

Obviously scotland has had lots of sun dispite the cold weather, this has helped the panel output significantly, unlike the other end of the country where it has just been cloudy and wet.
And if I come across as jealous- I flippin well am!!!

We have been installing solar edge since Jan 2011 and installed around 70-80 solar edge systems now .

heres an install down south just outside of London ...

less than above but still good for 23 days worth .....

That's really good and puts my last 3 days of 27.76kWh, 28.05kWh and 27.56kWh in the shade a little!
Just under 385kWh so far this month (23days) though the recent weather has been excellent.
I'm now wondering if the 30kWh barrier can be broken?

Yes, the weather here has been the worst ever since records began in the 1800's for cool, wet and cloudy. It's normally bright, sunny and dry here.
In fact, it's so cold and wet recently that Scotland is warmer, sunnier and drier. Quite a lot of the plants and trees round here are very sick due to lack of sun.
The lawns and tree leaves round here are more yellow than green due to lack of sunlight (just as grass goes yellow if it is covered for a few days).
I've actully just had two of my apple trees have all their leaves shrivel-up and die, with the tree suddenly dying too. I have another couple of apple tree looking very sick, and have noticed quite a few other trees in the area have died. No specific disease; just not enough sun to keep their photosynthesis going.

Having been in holidaying in the New Forest recently, it was quite a shock to come back from a run of glorious, clear sunny days to find heavy cloud cover and mist hanging over Essex and East Anglia.

However, my wife informs me that the Gulf Stream (or something similar to it) has been knocked a bit off its usual path in recent months, and that's why the weather in some parts of the UK is not normal. It's just a case of waiting for the Gulf Stream to revert back. In reverting back, it'll probably overshoot in the other direction, perhaps turning the weather cold and dull for other parts of the UK.

But as it stands, the SouthEast and East Anglia are really suffering from lack of sun at the moment.

Check out Uncle Mike Dundee on PVoutput - admitting to 34.32Kw on 22/5 from 3.75KWh system

------------------------------------------------------------

No, Don,t bother, his count started at 16kW for the day

Brilliant - all that extra daylight pays off up there :)

34kw - unbelievable - this is what we should be promoting now. Time to stop complaining about the cuts (me included :) ) and promote what's great about what we do.

Well we have just had some figures back from our customer that got a 4kW Sanyo HIT 250w panels SMA Inverter fitted on a Deger Tracker and his highest reading which was Sat 26th May 49.8kW WOWZERS Over 3 days last week with the good weather it was regularly achieving 45kW. This is in Stirling, Scotland

What do you think?

How about over 600 kWhrs in a week against an annual prediction of 14,000 , should have been 300 , perfect South about half a mile from the sea, on the cliffs near Swanage. This performance mainly due to the constant sea breeze we think, as the warmer it gets the more breeze near the coast . This is 72 Schott Mono 195 to a 15000TL inverter.

some nice looking systems here. I like the free standing 16 panel unit above, maybe the answer to the didgy roof on the property we are moving into.
where do these come from?

probably cheaper than re roofing, plus scaffold and mouting kit, or are they really that expensive!!

whats the planning situation with these?

You could make one with an added sun tracker, a retired nuclear scientist customer of our has done it ..... he made two !!

Holt piccie.jpg

Forgot to mention this system can change the angle of the modules as well as the direction faced !!

It was an expensive system but that is what the customer wanted and if it continues to produce these figures on good days then It will be a good investment.

Also with trackers you have to allow for motor breakdowns (and they are not cheap), and sensors.

The beauty of Pv, when it has been installed well, it is simple, no moving parts, and if you have a decent inverter that is suited to the system, there is no reason why it will not run for years with no maintenance at all.

If space is not an issue, you could have a much larger ground mounted system for the same price, so you could probably generate more KWH's for less money and take out the risk of any breakdowns.

All that said, the figures are impressive and it will be great if it works for 25 years without a problem

out of curiosity how do you do a SAP calc on a tracker?
If you were a stickler for the MCS guidance, then you'd just have to tell the customer you had no idea what the system would produce. Personally I'd go with PVGIS, because it was designed by people with half a braincell, and a lot of data, and gives you the options for vertical, horizontal and both trackers.

But then that be my answer 99.99% of the time anyway, as SAP's just a jobs for the boys at BRE project, nothing to do with providing customers with accurate information.
