Afternoon, is there any requirement for electrical cabinets to be all metal? Or is any flame retardant ok? It’s for a basic PLC cabinet with inputs / outputs to a Cobot. Very light industrial, nothing ever gets damaged etc.

    What is happening with Automation?

Evening, There seems to be a high demand for Automation / Controls Engineers at the moment. Larger companies seem to be starting new automation departments in their companies. What do we think will happen, is it to help reduce the labour problems of the last year or so? Is it to ramp up...

Looking for a VFD with good scaling for display.

Evening, I currently use Rexroth VFD´s, but the scaling options are a bit sparse. Basically it has a multiplier that you can set from 0.1 to 100. For example on a pillar drill I added one to, I wanted the display to show RPM, but as the motor is geared down (for example 12:1), you only get...

Servo Drive burning out encoder input.

Evening, we have a machine (being deliberately vague) it has a main motor, which is driven by a VFD, on the spindle of the shaft driven by the motor is a rotary incremental encoder, something like 1000 pulse / revolution. This encoder controls a Servo Drive which drives a small motor for another...

    A good make of PIR.

Can you recommend a good make of PIR for outside LED’s please. The Screwfix ones lasted a month or so before they filled with water. The current ones from B&Q lasted a bit longer but after every time we have heavy rain they are constantly on and off. Need to have adjustable angle with 3m...

    Plug adaptor?

Can you buy the reverse of the adaptor below? I need the two pin plug (with the hex shape) to convert to a 3 pin uk socket. It’s just for chargers etc in the car. I could make one from a lead and socket but would rather have just an adaptor. Thanks.

    Messed up order.

Ordered 3x Hylec overloads (4.6-6.5A) from Screwfix. Next day received: 1x Hylec overload in box that says 0.5-2.5A 2x BG 40A RCBO WTF? Looking at the overload, despite what it says on the box, Screwfix sticker says 4.6-6.5A, risked it and opened it and inside is a 24-28A overload! How can...

Testing 300mA RCD with Megger 1552

    Hi, am I right in thinking that a Megger 1552 can’t test RCD’s at more than 1000mA? Therefore a 5x test on s 300mA RCD can’t happen?

    Asbestos testing......

Hi, wondering if we should get something tested to see if they are asbestos. Currently they (wall tiles) are considered as being, but life would be easier if they definitely weren’t and we were able to drill them. What sort of cost is getting them tested? Thanks.

    Round conduit box lids.

Evening, is there a place to get good quality 20mm round plastic conduit lids? I’ve installed a load this weekend from Screwfix and they don’t seal correctly as the plastic is too thin. I’ve ended up using two lids on each box! Thanks.
