    American qualified, help needed!

Hi, My husband is American, he's 29 and (to American standards) is a fully qualified electrician. They operate on a 'time served' system, everyone takes the equivalent to 17th edition to be up on the wiring regulations and then just learns on the job. He has 9 years experience, mainly in...

American sourced light fittings used in the UK

Im fitting some light fittings from the US with an inbuilt PIR. Given US mains voltage is 110-120v @60Hz UK is 240v @ 50Hz . Most fittings of this type here are designed to be wired straight into the main with no transformer but given this has a built in PIR sensor could that cause problems on...

@Dan Can you change the forum language to UK English, please. I don't like American 'English'. Or at least add the option English(UK) to the language button, bottom left corner.

    Curiosity about American 3-pin outlets.

Until some years ago American 3-pin outlets were installed similarly to ours insofar as the earth pin was at the top; presumably for the same reason that ours are. Now, though, they all seem to be installed with the earth pin at the bottom. Does anyone know the reason for this?
