Just a quick question. Weve recently taken down loads of twin flourescent fittings due to water leak damage in offices. These are old style ballast and starter lights. Now that they are dry will they work again or will the ballast be knacked.
Wondering if I could put this incident to you and anyone could determine a fault scenario which would cause such damage .
A colleague was rewiring one half of a semi detached house. 3 phase cable head comes into the house which he is working , the neighbours mains come from the top of the fused...

I've had a request for a job that I've not come across before and that is to go an inspect a property that has suffered flooding. The homeowner has told me that the electrics have been turned off and that she needs a quote for insurance purposes. I can't say at this point what has been damaged...
Evening all,
Has anybody come across problems with GU10 halogens causing damage to PVC ceiling cladding? i.e. Yellowing of the finish, melting of the cladding etc?
I know this stuff is fire rated but can't seem to find much information on heat damage from lighting.
Was asked the question...

Hi guys
Did an EICR last week in a council house and the occupant has complained to the council that during my testing I've damaged her TV! I did an insulation resistance test with line and neutral linked together, to earth. I normally do it at 250V then, if the reading is healthy, at 500V...
Hi Guys
first time poster long time reader
I have been testing and inspecting existing installations for about 10 months now, all for the council, I have agreed to sample 10% of accessories, and as I regularly read over Guidance note 3 to keep me refreshed off the top of my head it says...
Industrial workshop, 40amp mcb in DB, non armoured rubber cable connected in comes out of steel tray and runs across the floor against wall, then behind some fork truck racking and has a 32a RCD outlet box laying on floor loose to connect the welder to.
Which code?
Totally fed up with this one.
Any thoughts on hole drilling to run cable down a stud wall, I cannot get a straight line through.
I am trying to run cable from the loft down to the CU in the hall.

took this in back of a sarnie shop, only reason im been called in is because the stainless splash back is been replaced by a full height one and she asked me to re-route the plastic conduit they were unaware it was doing any damage to the conduit DOH!
When doing an IR test I appreciate that there should be nothing connected - all bulbs removed etc - but what about fluorescent lights - I remove the tube will the IR test damage the starter \ other controls - should I actually be disconnecting the fitting?
Would also appreciate an answer to ...
Hi,
Can any one advise me about the actual damage caused to a frequency drive if flashed with 500 vdc from an insulation tester?
I have an ABB ACS800 0100 drive (100kw) that has been flashed by someone. The drive uses IGBT modules fired from a control card, will it be the IGBT modules that...

I have a project where I need to take a (fused) mains supply for an HVAC control box (in a village hall) without disturbing decor. The obvious answer would be to replace a 2G 13A socket (double backbox) with a combined double unit (or modular units fitting into a double faceplate) that provided...
Hi,
We had PAT testing carried out the other day and since the engineer left... one of the laser printers in the office has packed up. It powers up ok, and the green LED indicating its ready to print is lit... but it hasn't printed a page since the guy tested it, and it won't print a test page...

As a company already in the home energy market we got accreditation for PV and solar thermal about 3 weeks ago. This was seen as the first stepping stone in taking the business into most if not all of the renewable technologies.
We were just finalising our marketing plans when the government...
Sorry if this is a stupid question - but does it damage the panels at all if the system is turned off for quite a long time - i.e panels in full sun, but disconnected for several hrs? I can't see why, but thought I'd check with you knowledgeable people.
We will be having some other electrical...
