Hi,
Just looking for a bit of advice, we live in a semi, and the mains power runs along our neighbours wall (about half way up the house) and then goes into our consumer unit which is in the kitchen.
We have just begun building a lean to extension, which effectively means that the mains power...

Hi guys,
Went to look at a job today where they are wanting power installing into an outbuilding. The outbuildings consist of an outside toilet and a store room. I noticed they also had a outside tap. The water is bonded in 10mm inside the house and the water supply to the outbuilding is...

Hi I have a house where in order for the rising main to be earthed, the earth goes around the outside of the property to the fuse box in 10mm cable clipped to the wall at damp proof level. It has no conduit protection. I have recently asked an electrician to upgrade the fuse box and he suggests...
Hi guys,
New to the forum and would much appreciate your opinions, I'm wiring a power radial circuit for one double socket for a customer, however part of the run (2 meters) will run on the outside of the house and then back inside, up from the ground floor to the first floor. The customer has...
friend d mine has asked if I can install a cooker feed for him. He doesn't want any walls/flooring disturbed so he has asked can it be run externally.
I assume there are 2 options here, SWA and t+e with mechanical protection (conduit)
For the SWA option, once iv got it to the point of entry...
Hi.
I'm pricing up a job. I need to run bell wire up the outside of a newly rendered and externally insulated house. Never touched this before and I'm worried the clips won't fix in securely or will damage it. Is this the case? Any one got any experience /tips?
Thanks.
Evening all, just wanted to run a customers ideas by you and if my thoughts are correct with regards to wiring.
Customer is having his garden landscaped and is looking to install 3/4 standalone lights, as well as a pond pump with its own mini lighting system for the water feature.

Got a job where im having to do the usual testing.
I have never tested a set up where due to the tails needing to being so long to reach the consumer unit there has been a switched fuse, this is i believe a standard directive from the DNO the tails then terminate into swa and run from the...

I have an external RCD unit to protect outside lights. This trips intermittently, when it does it also trips the RCD in the consumer unit. If I test the external RCD with the trip switch, it trips and also causes the RCD in the consumer unit to trip. I have tested the circuit and the tests are...

I live in a small flat complex that has a number of external lights that are controlled by "SS4" type plug in photocells.
One of the cells has failed permanently on, as they normally do.
Is it ok for me to change the cell, without incurring the wrath of any regulations or building inspectors...
Hi,
Had a look at a job today and noticed external lighting had been wired in white FP, clipped to wall surface.
I informed them mechanical protection must be provided and they insisted the board had RCD protection and it wasn't required.
Anyone else seen this before.

I have a really old Yale HSA-2500 burglar alarm installed in my house but I am having an issue with my external siren. It seems to be going off but the sound is a very muffled froggy type of a noise. My system seems to set ok (although one of my PIR's seems to have died and doesn't trigger...
Evening all, I've been asked to put some external lighting in for a gentleman I know. It's a large detached property and he wants 4 lights at the front of his house to make it "glow" in the night time. Never installed this sort of lighting, so not too sure which would be the best to use. Need to...
