Can anyone tell me the latest regulation for RCD protection on socket outlets, I believe it's required for sockets up to 32A but I'm told it applies to all socket outlets, we have to install a 63A 5 pin socket located outside. Thanks in advance
Hi, I rarely (once a week or once in two weeks) use my vehicle and the car battery goes low, not enough to start.
If I connect a 1Amp 12Volt charger to the battery just to provide power to whatever is slowly draining the battery, will it help? will it damage the battery?
will it cause any...
My 1990 property does not have the lighting circuits protected by the Distribution Board RCCB.Only the power circuits are protected. If I get a trip from the RCCB the lights stay on.
Do I need to upgrade my system to include RCCB for lighting?
I have come across a failed SPD, I thought I would take it apart and post pics for people to discuss.
It appears to work by melting an alloy or type of solder to break the connection.
I guess this is after the MOV decreases its resistance and increases the current.
Had a customer ask for RCD to be changed to Type A as he has had a company install a PV unit which they have left with the spur switched off as new regulations state that PV units must have a type A RCD 🤔. Has anybody else had this situation??
Scenario: Commercial TPN distribution board down stream requiring type2/3 protection. Board is at full capacity and breakers discontinued etc. how are people getting around this? is it acceptable to be doubling up in the supply side of the main switch to feed separate enclosure with triple pole...
I am looking for the B1 case size they made between the 1971 (GEC D case type) and when Siemens took over the brand.
I don't have access to the site of the original installation that I am trying to get the panel fixing details used.
Data sheets for these are pre-internet so I am struggling to...
Hi, I have recently had 18 solar panels (390W) fitted to my roof. The system is a GivEnergy. A Gen 1 Hybrid 5kW inverter (Gen2 version could not be sourced!) and a 9.5kWh battery. It all works well (although not much use with just winter sunshine).
My question is: I'm sure I have read that to...

Best way to add RCD protection to specific circuits in an old Siemens DB which I’m told is now obsolete.
Install an additional enclosure adjacent to the DB to hold new RCBOs and feed these from the obsolete MCBs?
Any other ideas?
I am a landlord and my managing estate agent just recently organised an electrician to carry out EICR. Came back as unsatisfactory, no RCD protection on: lights, smoke alarm, door bell and immersion heater. There is RCD protection on sockets and cooker. Electrician suggests changing the...
So as the title says can I use a mcb as the main switch. Basically to keep it short I’ve took a 25mm sub main to power an outbuilding. Mains coming in will be Henley blocked and new tails will go into enclosure with b63a mcb which then feeds 25mm swa to outhouse which contains its own c/u which...
Hi guys, I am rewiring a commercial launderette with 3 phase machinery.
Does the machinery need to be RCD protected being in commando sockets.
The sockets are not accessible to the public and each circuit is being used for a specific machine.
With the price of three phase rcbos the...

TT system, existing three phase fuse board recently installed by another spark which only has single phase circuits terminated into individual RCBOs
Required to install three phase circuits for new equipment, is there a better way of doing this than fitting a 4pole RCD ahead of the main switch...
Evening all,
Pretty straightforward I think. I was led to believe that surge protection needs to be fitted on all additions and alterations including when doing minor works unless the client signs a waiver. Another sparky I work with claims that this does not apply if you are just adding a an...
Qualified electrician has installed Zappi car charger outside house. Grid incoming goes to DNO cutout then to SPD then to meter then to henley block then to RCCB then to SWA cable out wall and to charger mounted on outside wall (about 4m length SWA). I just learnt that RCCB gives no overcurrent...
Let me say from the off that although I'm electrically competent I'll be getting a professional in to do the work. I just like to know the answers before I ask professionals questions!
So I have a 100A single phase domestic supply feeding the house CUs as well as a CU for an EV charger. One of...
Hello engineers. I did EICR in two bed rented flat in a block of flats. There is old plastic fuseboard just above the entry door. There are only bs1361 fuses inside and no RCD. All luminaries are plastic. The board and wiring are in good condition. Any advise on how should i code that?
Hi all,
I am installing a custom sized (15ft X 17Ft) Aluminium pergola in my backyard on a concrete with tiles.
The Aluminium pergola and kitchen are powered from one of the outlet from the house.
Please note, the pergola has inbuilt lights and will be powered from one of the outlet from the...
I was asked to go and take a look at a generator set up by a marquee company yesterday to do some testing.
It was a brand new JCB 65QS with 209hrs on it (58.7kva prime). The generator was fitted with a socket pack from the bus bar with 3 x 16a on 30ma RCBO, 1 x 32/3 on a C curve MCB and a 63/3...
