Morning All
When testing end to end resistance of r1, r2 and rn. Is there a number you can multiply the r1 reading to check that the r2 reading is ok? For some reason I seem to remember you can.
also, when tails enter a metal enclosure, they should enter through the same knockout/entry...
Hi,
Just browsing through OSG (living the dream!).
Why is an A1 ring final circuit only protected by a 30/32A breaker when the max current carrying capacity of a 2.5 cable is 27A? (page 134 of OSG, column 6). Apologies in advance if I'm missing something very obvious. Thank you

Hi chaps,
Been searching thru posts but to no avail. I have one ring final with IR of approx 0.98 Mohm L-N , 1.48 Mohm L-E on 500v. I later found one appliance plugged in (dishwasher) but didnt have time to re test. The fcu above worktop was switched off for this applince but it was still...
Had a Minor, Non Notifiable to do for a friend. Moving 2x sockets in the bedroom. After looking at it and from a response on here, took new legs up into the loft (it's a top floor flat) and joined in a 30A JB to the Incoming legs off the circuit.
Came to test it, as was supplying a BS7671 MW...
Something I've wondered about for a while...
If you had both legs of a RFC, in say T&E or singles, running in the same conduit, so basically touching, would you need to apply the appropriate correction factor for grouping?
Doing a PIR lately and found no continuity on one of the ring final neutral circuits. I am not familiar with fault finding and would appreciate any help and hints. IR test on the circuit passed.
I am trying to do some individual circuit testing ahead of my 2391 practical, but I am having a problem with final ring circuits. Radial circuits aren't a problem, but when you look in all the guidance including GN3 it only deals with lighting circuits. Do you have to join all 4 live ends...
Hi all
Just a phone call from a potential customer who is after a periodic but has mentioned equipment that cant be turned off.
How would i do a proper 'Ze' and a continuity test to a ring final circuit?
(if the equipment is on a ring final)
I have been told if you cant turn a circuit off...

Had a 2nd call out today to a relative (let's say they're a client) for a fault on the downstairs Sockets.
In a nutshell the downstairs sockets are tripping the RCD. Been there nearly all day & cannot fathom out what might be the cause?
So, the board is a 16th MCB Only. There...
Hi all,
I need to run power to a shed but access to the main indorr DB is very awkward. I plan to do the following but would welcome your comments;
The customer requires the following;
Power to a 2 way board in the shed
Power from the shed 2 way board to an IP66 FS (5A) for a pond pump...

hi, was approached today by a spark that had done a board change, blah to cut a long story short........................
he said i had two ringmains one upstairs and one for downstairs. when i used my bell testers to check ends so i was sure i was connecting right ends togther back as rings in...
Now - up to about ten min's ago - i thought I had this install sussed- I'm a bit tired so I may just be misunderstanding some of the posts on this forum - I've also been out of the electrical game for about twenty years and just r*********** so need some support please - hence me checking and...

Hi People
So im testing my ring rinal circuit....
i do my end to end test.....
I join incoming CPC to outgoing Line and vice versa......
I then go around my circuit with my tester noting the readings at each socket and record the highest reading.....
Ok so this is my R1+R2 = 0.3
My...
Customer has asked to install an external Halogen PIR on the outside of their garage. I explained I could take a FCU off the Socket & wire out to the fitting, (as I normally do) but am I overkilling it? If I down rate the fuse in a connected plug to 3A based on a 500w Lamp, this would give...
Working in a 2 bed terrace and been asked to do a pir, the continuity on the downstairs ring final is confusing me and wondered if one of you chaps with a fresh pair of eyes could help me out. End to end continuity of Rn is open end to end of R2 is open but I'm getting a low fluctuating reading...
should'nt the Zs readings on a ring final be roughly the same at each outlet? the reason i ask is that i'm getting different readings (.08ohms-.45ohms) is this normal or could it be the tester. cheers
I have spurred out of the ring through a 3a FCU for an outside , how do i go about testing for a Minor Works Cert .Do i do the full RFC tests? or is there a quicker method ? The only tests are Earth continuity , IR , Zs and rcd i believe ....
I'm doing a PIR on my flat and I've come across a fault I can't work out.
I'm getting a very low (about 0.1Meg Ohm) insulation resistance between Neutral and Line conductors on one of the ring circuits. However I'm not getting continuity between Line and Neutral and the MCB isn't tripping...

While testing R1+R2 2.5/1.5 T&E on a 3 bed house Line and Neutral crossed over on opposite legs I recorded .34 ohms on all bar one of the sockets which gave a reading of .49 ohms. "A Spur!" everyone says. Now when deciding what to write on my form I think it goes .49x4=R1+R2 or would it be...
