When testing ring final how do i know incoming and outgoing legs when cross connecting L & N. Will the readings at each socket be considerably different when they should be roughly the same. R1 +Rn/4 at each socket. Cheers
Hi all had a weird one today, actually make it two, tested ringfinal continuity at the board lives were 0.00 and so were neutrals, earths were the same too, not sure why, is it a ring that has been interconnected causing a duff reading??
Secondingly tested another property's ringfinal circuit...
Customer wants new CU and a shed supply. (Let's not get into shed supplies - been doing some homework on this one).
Medium/smallish 4 bed house, has > 100M^2 area, but currently has single ring final, no split.
How to deal with Regs 314 about splitting the load? I'm not trying to spend...
Please could someone enlighten me on how grouping factors apply to ring final circuits run together, e.g. sharing holes through joists and walls, in a domestic situation?
For one RFC run in 2.5mm T&E under first floor boards (ref method B) the cable rating is 23A.
If you group two RFCs...
Im currently studying electrical and im up to dead tests.
ive reached continuity of ring final circuit on my scenario cd , in therory i understand the procedure and what to do but im a little un sure on finding the mid point on the sockets .
please can sombody go threw it step by step in...
I'll probably receive cries of abuse that this query was dealt with years ago but not when I was in the forum so........When testing ring can anybody think of a reason why the ring final tests (R1,R2 and Rn + link test) shouldn't be done from the back of a socket or other outlet on the ring. As...

I have a query around installing a socket outlet spur off a final ring circuit in a domestic installation which isn’t protected by any RCD’s at the DB. My understanding is that to comply with the current regulation the cable installed in the wall would need to be in the prescribe zones (which it...
Hi,
I am studying for me 91 and am currently practicing on my home. I have found that my garage circuit consisting of a small 2 way CU with 1 of each; ring and lighting circuit (no RCD). I expected to see this circuit connected to the main CU through its own CB but in fact it is connected to...
I am carrying out the continuity for a ring final test for a single phase TN-S system. When doing the end to end Neutral I don't get a reading!! What is wrong here and what Code does apply (Code 1-3)?
Many Thanks.

Can we carry out the continuity test for the ring final by connecting the line, neutral, and cpc end to end at any socket or do we have to identify and disconnect the conductors at the C/U? I am aksing as i think it is much easier to link the line, neutral, and cpc end to end at any socket...
Hi
Just doing end to end test
line - line 0.51ohms seems fine
cpc-cpc 0.91 ohms seems fine
But N- N reading is coming up 1.46 Kilo ohms ??!!! any thoughts
I am doing 2392-10 and am fairly green.............be gentle

Hi guys, Would be interested to hear your thoughts on the following.
I had to change a CU in a hoarders property in January which proved to be quite a challenge. CU was damaged with accessible live parts so I had no choice. Clutter was extreme with hardly any access to some rooms so couldn't get...

Just pondering my voltage drop calcs for a fused spur off a ring final. Additional circuit will be around 15-20m long so I though I should do this properly....
My problem is calculating the voltage drop in the existing ring to the point of the spur which of course depends on distribution of...

Why is it when you cross connect the conductors at each leg and then test continuity, the result is one quarter of the combined resistances of the legs? I am usually pretty good at seeing how/why calculations work out, but just cannot in this case get my head around why the value measured is a...
Hi Chaps
I am just starting out in this profession and eager to learn so sorry if questions seem a bit daft.
If you need extend a second floor ring main which runs through four rooms by a further two sockets , and you have no idea where the first or last socket is where do you break into the...
Hi all,
Had a call from a customer saying her oven had broken. When the oven engineer went out he fixed the oven but told her she had "no earth on her kitchen sockets".?!?! He told her the other circuits ie the lounge and cooker, were ok but no earth to the kitchen ring final?! How can this be...

Hi i have been set some home work from college to find out why ring final circuits are dangerous. I know the obvious that if one leg on the ring breaks it will not be a full ring and the 32 amp mcb will be too big for the cable as it will only be able to carry about 20 amps with out it been a...
TN-S Domestic, 30mA RCD, 32A MCB, 2.5mm T&E I've been asked to install some socket outlets and connect up previously installed underfloor electric heating (2400W) plus some wall lights in a Conservatory project that got built, but electrical works not completed by the the time the building firm...
Went to look at a job today in a one bedroom purpose built flat which consists of two lighting circuits, a single ring final circuit for the sockets, a shower circuit and a cooker circuit with a single socket outlet. The customer wanted to upgrade the old fuse box to a CU in what on the surface...
