Hi all.
Had to repair a underground swa cable at short notice this afternoon so just had what was on my van as wholesalers would be shut.
To get it back going I used some outdoor gland packs and crimped it in a whiska box.
It’s due to be replaced apparently but how good would that connection be...
Short Version
Is it permissible to have 2 feeds to 2 separate consumer units in a detached garage?
Is it permissible to run SWA underground through a duct/conduit or must it be direct in ground?
What diameter SWA would I require for a 10m run, buried and clipped to wall, feeding 3 x 16a...
With a cavity wall running down between a two drive way each client would like led brick lights. Other than swa, which is not that flexible to work with in such a small space, looking for tips on what other type of cable would be acceptable to use which is also easier to work with and terminate...
Hi guys. Just after some advice on what you think the best way of getting swa through a cavity wall.
Do you use just use T&E, conduit and wiska boxes before transfering to swa or just go straight through with the SWA? What do you think the tidiest method is?
I only ask as I'm running power to...
Has anyone used a brass gland plate to earth a line of SWA glands e.g. at a DB, and had anyone such as an NICEIC inspection flag it up as non-compliant?
I am proposing to screw a flat plate of brass onto the top of the DB and mount the glands through it with their usual locknuts, A brass bolt...
Not 100% sure on the requirements for RCD protection of outbuildings. I am going to run 10mm2 SWA, about a 20m Run, to a sub board in the outbuilding, buried in the ground. The main house is on a TN-S, and the outbuilding will have a 32Amp hot tub, a few small fridges, a couple TV's, sockets and...
Hi all,
Would appreciate your thoughts on the following.
Customer has a garage CU fed by a 6mm cable from the main CU in the house. The cable exits the house and then is stretched overhead between the house and the garage. The cable is starting to sag and the customer wants it replacing. My...
Good evening all
Got a 200m run of 3 core 10mm swa to install in a trench. Rather than pulling it through a duct, was wondering if anyone has ever pulled the duct over the cable, then dropped in into trench.
Duct is 50mm internal diameter flexible type. Might be a non starter, just weighing up...
Hi
Client doesn’t want external cable . Shop with a three way mains incomer 9 m away . 2 flats fed on other feeds .So was going to run the 16mm SWA from the incomer in a low wall chase internally and run up the wall into a flush CU . So no RCD protection but earthed sheath . Do I have to sink...
Hi
Fitting a consumer unit in garage . Unfortunately the 16MM SWA is too short to reach consumer unit
So i have done as follows .
Glanded SWA into a metal adaptable box .
earthing nut earthed with 10mm crimped and run to earth block .
2 cores of SWA Brown and Grey ( oversleeved BLUE) run to...
Hi,
Apologies in advance if this is in the wrong forum. I tried to post to 'Electrical Advice' as a DIYer but had issues.
I'm laying SWA (about 40m of 10mm2 as advised by a pro) to a new workshop building that will have its own CU, circuit and ground spike. I want to do the donkey work and lay...
This is my first post. I’d really appreciate any advice.
I have a detached workshop that in 1999 had power supplied to it via a 32 A SWA cable. Dedicated 32 A circuit via RCB from house CU to workshop, SWA terminated correctly, etc. All done by electrical contractors as part of a house and...
I went to look at a job today and the client has two 16amp commandos installed but they are both wired in the same 4 core SWA through two 16a MCBs and the CPC for both is the armouring of the SWA. The two cores go to one commando and the other two go to the other commando(only about 5m away)...
So over the past few months or so I have been ripping out SWA from an old warehouse unit for a mate. I have got loads of short bits of 1.5 & 2.5 SWA the lengths vary from about 2M to about 15M. Its all old colours and most ends still have the rusted glands on it and some galv boxes still...
Hi guys been a while,
I have a customer asking for quite a large outdoor lighting and power installation
It is going to have a kitchen area built which they want 3 x double sockets and 6 spotlights with a switch
the kitchen will also have a gas cooker
A shed with 2 double sockets and a...
Hi guys,
looking at a small stable conversion. DNO is putting supply to a out door box away from house. So putting in switched fuse and 25mm2 SWA underground to the house, up the corner and under the gutter to where CU will be inside. What’s the best way to bring the SWA into the house? Drill...
Hi All
any suggestions for a small adaptable box with dims approx 50 w x 50 deep (length not really an issue), the Wiska 206 would be ideal (85mmx49mmx51mm) however I need to get an earth Banjo on there as it is swa cable and I don't think I will get one on on the wiska with the pre threaded...
Hi
Could anyone advise...
I have a weatherproof exterior box with an RCD socket inside.
My garden is gully chipped and stoned.
I was hoping to put up 2 post lights and run from a plug in to the RCD socket without having it classed as an installation.
My question is, the 2 lights are 60w...
Hiya.
I suspect I already know the answer to this but I would welcome any opinion from anyone who's tried it...
Moving a domestic consumer unit 2M up a wall. Ideally I don't want to use trunking. Debating whether I could get away with 25mm SWA chased into the wall but I don't recall using 25mm...
