I thought you might be interested in an unusual fault I have been dealing with by telephone.
Customer phoned yesterday saying that with passing cumulus and sunshine the inverter output was oscillating wildly the inverter then cut out as the voltage was rising fast around 255V with fault code...
Here's the senario. Regency building with 5 flats contained within. System is 3 Phase with a further 2 service fuses added on making 5 in total, earthing is TT. Each flat is fed via a mixture of DP 100mA or 30mA RCD's which in turn feed KMF switched fuse isolators. 16mm T&E tails to each flat...
Hey all. This is my first post. I consider myself to be a competent DIYer. I worked for an electrician for two years and have a better than average grasp of UK domestic electrical installations. However, I now find myself in bulgaria and I'm about to rewire my own house but the system of supply...
TN-C-S DOMESTIC. I have been asked to replace an old domestic CU with a new CU. I have performed the IR tests and all comply, all socket outlets are on a Radial configuration with 20A protection & 30mA RCD with 2.5mm squared T&E. The circuit comprises of 4 single and 1 double Socket and Central...

I've come across a very unusual situation; I've recently been asked to do a consumer unit replacement on a job but on inital inspection i've discovered that the systems only connection to earth is via a 16mm2 cable between the MET and the netural connection within the henley block...
A customer of mine has a small kitchen and wants me to fit a dishwasher in the unit below the hob.I am trying to think of a reason why not as its a bit unusual,but i cant think of any reason why not but would like opinions please.
I'm doing an EICR at the moment for a family member, so most of the remedials are being done as the defects are discovered.
As such, it's gone up to 100% sampling because of what's been found.
The bathroom is upstairs, but the pull cord isolator for the shower is mounted on the WALL.... in the...
the existing setup:

Hi fellas,
Might have a job soon where i am installing a socket and light in 64 garages, spread over 4 blocks.
The SEB will be installing 4 supplies to each block, and so i will install a main CU with sep meters for each garage.
How would you cert this??
Its not exactly part of a residential...
Been doing a CU change today and all the testing was going well until I got to the kitchen/utility ring. The end to end readings were:
R1 = 0.68
RN = 0.69
R2 = 0.56
So back tomorrow to look further - any suggestions as to how to locate what appears to be a "short cut" in the CPC?

Hi, recently did a CU replacement. Tested before the change and circuits all good, but one odd thing I found is that the previous owner had installed his own version of a two-way switch for the hall light.
However, rather than using 3-core in a traditional arrangement so that either switch can...

I have had a call out to investigate an RCD tripping. Initially this was thought to be caused by a leak from the shower. The installation has been installed poorly with a multitude of junction boxes under the floor (i counted 15 within 2 metres of the fuseboard). I located the problem...
