Just wondering if there is any probs with a 2 gang switch each side individually fed (one side on downstairs lighting circuit the other on up stairs) and it is labelled at the board as well, is there anything in the regs or is it just bad practice, be interested on hearing peoples opinions,

cheers in advance;)

Not sure what you mean, are you talking about a hall light and a landing light 2 way, for example, the hall on the downstairs light radial and the landing on the upstairs one? If so, I don't think theres anything wrong with it..... the other option is a borrowed neutral which is a bit naughty......

cheers pal what it is, is im rewiring lights in a house and ive been lucky enough to be able to pull down the existing capping and have been able to do the majority of the job without any damage to the decor, theres a switch at the bottom of the stairs one side inc up lights via straps the other being a light in the porch which i have made into a 2 way which is on down strs lights? Ive also upgraded board dual rcd so nicking neutrals is no longer an option not only that looped at the lights so dont need to any way cheers again.:d;)

According to B&Q it breaches Regulations.

Of course they are completely and utterly wrong.

Can't see how it's "bad practise" either.

HI

I WAS PICKED UP ON THIS ON MY LAST NIC VISIT, HE SAID THAT IT NEEDS TO BE LABELED BEFORE ACCESSING LIVE PARTS.... SO IN OTHERWORDS THE LABEL NEEDS TO BE ON THE FACE PLATE....... WHICH WILL LOOK PANTS!

I think what Gary is trying to say is 'put a label on the front of the switch if it's for your assessment. Otherwise, but a label inside the switch, and note on any certificates'.

hi mate
all new build i ever wired landing was on a 1gang two way top and strapped to downstairs to a 2 gang 2 way at the bottom one for landing light and second side of 2 gang for the hall light so i dont see no wrong but as others suggest put a label inside
My house is the same this is the only way i was ever shown
and as for a label on the front of the switch who would want that on there nice e.g. new black shiny nickel plated switch

Looks OK on a grid switch as you can have it under the cover but before access to live parts can be attained.

why not put a note on the outside say on a post it note, if the client wants to remove it that's up to him (please don't take this too seriously!)

I'd feed upstairs hall seperately from stairs so that if one circuit fails there should be some light available for emergency descent. Could be misplaced overthought .
