Hi, I've just moved into a new house. In the porch there's a 3 gang light switch which connects to an external PIR security light, porch light and hallway lights respectively.

I don't really want the security light to be on a switch, I'd rather it had constant supply and have the PIR and light sensor see to its operation. with the switch being on and off constantly in error by the wife, it interferes with the settings on the security light.

Would the best option be to change the existing switch for an 3 gang MK grid plus box with 2 switches for the internal lights and something else like a blank with an outlet(?) for the security light OR would it be best to separate the the two all together with a 2 gang switch for the internal lightsAnd a blank plate with flex out for the external light? Is this even possible? Changing the security light to a fused spur is possibly an option but involves more work than I'd like!

Thoughts on on the easiest way around this welcome as I have a rather limited grasp, which you've probably gathered. Thanks

3 gang grid. 2 sitches , one for porch light and one for hall light. 2 pole keyswitch ( as used for emergency lighting ) for the PIR light. then you can isolate the PIR light only by using the key.

I would change the 3 gang switch to a 2 gang switch and through crimp or in a connector block the 2 cable for the outside PIR. You will have a perminent feed and a switch wire to the outside light join these together and you will have the outside PIR light with a perminent feed. The 2 switches will the opperate your other lights.

so how would you isolate the PIR light in case of a fault tripping RCD and taking half the house out?
