Have been looking for a generator to run electrical heaters. Heaters are rated at 10A 240v EACH

There are 11 of these heaters to run and have found a new 3 phase generator rated at 75KVA at what seems to be a good price.

How difficult is it to connect the heaters and what auxilliary equipment if any will I need to balance the load?

Any advice would be apprerciated

Sorry should read 3 phase in title - fat fingers

Hi there.

A lot could depend on how you intend switching the heaters i.e manually, via a timer, roomstats etc.

For a standard install you would be looking at supplying a 3P DB off the generator, and taking single phase supplies from this via single pole MCB's to each heater isolator, 1 for each heater. You need to make sure the load is as balanced as you can get it i.e, 4 heaters on 1 phase, 4 on another, and 3 on the other as geneys dont like large imbalances.

As you have purely resistive loads then you should be operating at somewhere near unity power factor, I'd say at least 0.9 anyway so you wont be wasting fuel there.

Also there is no diversity on heating loads so those heaters will be operating at the full 10A most of the time i.e 110A FLC across 3 phases = 36A per phase. Do the heaters have built in thermostatic control?? if so this may have an effect on the geney as if say they all called for heat at once it may overload the MCCB in the geney.

Hope this helps.
