just some info to pass on.(thanks to NICEIC for the info)

Its regarding the 6th April 2013 deadline to apply to the register with just 17th Edition exam pass.
In case anyone was unsure what was required by applicants after the deadline.

Today I messaged NICEIC online chat enquiry with the following and they replied with the latter message.

My Question to NICEIC:

Hi, Im studying for 17th Edition to register as dom installer with you, Im aware there is a deadline of 6th April. What changes / stipulations will be enforced after that date? do you have a link with more info ? once i pass my 17th Edition exam later this month, what other deadlines will i have to meet, like applying? being assessed? registering? pls advise. thanks

NICEIC REPLIED:
Hi, on the 6th of April the requirements change to join a competent persons scheme yes, at the moment the only qualification needed is a 17th edition. As of April you will need an NVQ 3, or a 17th edition and some testing and inspecting courses. If you made an application with us before April then you would be fine even if the assessment wasnt carried out until after April.

Thank god this whole domestic install thing is a joke anyone doing it without proper training is terrible and just lowering the cost of real sparks

Not all of us! :P

Some of us have pride in what we do, want to further our life skills, oh, and are trying to earn a living. Maybe I should've insisted to the JSA I wanted to be a plumber, but they, foolishly, said my life skills/previous work experience would make me a perfect DI (OK, I'm a sucker for flattery!!) :D

And I'm looking to get on a college course to further the quals, but with all the number changes I ain't got a clue which I should try to get on anymore.

Yeh Eastern European ring any bells it doesn't make you a sparks just able to sign off work it's a joke my god you wouldn't let s guy who's done a multi choice online exam play with gas

Yeah up til 6th April 2013 you only needed the 17th edition. Hopefully this will get rid of all the Electrical Trainee courses! unless they start running NVQ3's over 5 weeks!! wouldn't put it past them!

So just to get my head around this are they saying at the moment a domestic installer only needs the 17th edition ???????????

yep
and even now the NIC are leaving a get out clause so as not to reduce their income stream
quote their reply ;
"a nvq OR 17th regs and a testing qual"
pathetic.
