just some info to pass on.(thanks to NICEIC for the info)

Its regarding the 6th April 2013 deadline to apply to the register with just 17th Edition exam pass.
In case anyone was unsure what was required by applicants after the deadline.

Today I messaged NICEIC online chat enquiry with the following and they replied with the latter message.

My Question to NICEIC:

Hi, Im studying for 17th Edition to register as dom installer with you, Im aware there is a deadline of 6th April. What changes / stipulations will be enforced after that date? do you have a link with more info ? once i pass my 17th Edition exam later this month, what other deadlines will i have to meet, like applying? being assessed? registering? pls advise. thanks

NICEIC REPLIED:
Hi, on the 6th of April the requirements change to join a competent persons scheme yes, at the moment the only qualification needed is a 17th edition. As of April you will need an NVQ 3, or a 17th edition and some testing and inspecting courses. If you made an application with us before April then you would be fine even if the assessment wasnt carried out until after April.

That bit in red got me! It was so matter of fact: as if the testing and inspection part is not the important part. Just a bolt on qualification. I dont know reading these forums at times i start to wonder if testing is becoming a black art. lmao

Can someone with an electrical installation technicians JIB grade be a domestic installer or would he have to do a course ?

All you need to join a approved scheme like NIIC, NAPIT is the 17th Edtion 2382 but you do need to prove your competence to the assessor.

Rubbish!! If that was the case there would be failures left, right and centre!! The assessor comes round mainly to check your various insurances etc, but mainly to warrant the £400+ your handing over!! lol!!

I can answer why Dom installers are hated so much in one question get it right and ill be very shocked. 3k heater wired in 2.5/1.5 over a 18 meter run bunched in trunking with a ze of 0.18 ohms 230v . Is this cpc ok? And give me the minimum cpc size you could use using calculations

im still learning and tried to do the above calc, dont i need to know how many cables/circuits are bunched in the trunking to get the correct answer (Cg). please help and advise or correct me thanks

It's 2.5 / 1.5 so I was more than likely thinking a single run t&e was only a example well proven lol

But it's not the point lack of information can be dangerous, if you get this wrong your breaker will not trip in the permitted time and if someone dies who's fault is it ?

The last shower install I went to look at, the plumber who was refitting the bathroom said to me "You just need to run a bit of 6mm in". I had a look at the shower the owner had already bought and it was 10.5KW, so I said to the plumber, "That will need 10mm, not 6mm." "Don't be daft", he said, "everyone knows showers are done in 6mm".

How do you combat this level of stupidity?
