I want to do some strip LED lighting around the house. I recently bought 5m Grovee strip LED (£20 amazon) and I am impressed with the choice of colours/white available with it, but it is expensive. I and have some left over and want to figure out how I can use this without the Grovee dongle/controller and possibly construct more LED lighting for a reasonable price. Amazon don't say but I assume these are 4 pin RGB 5050 smd LEDs with about 3 LEDs/10cm of strip cable. I am a experimental physicist so I have a little experience with electrical wiring/soldering and LED lasers but not much knowledge of home lighting. So Here are my questions which I can't find in a google search:

1) Where is the cost? PSU, controller or LED bulbs. I cant seem to find all of the individual components for cheaper than the kit (maybe I am looking wrong)
2) Is the controller/dongle, or the LED bulb itself which affects the quality/control of LED light/colour?

TL;DR
How to make LED strip lighting cheaper
