Just started up on my own, haven't been asked to carry out an EICR yet, however I have, unbelievably, never found myself carrying one out, so feel I am a lacking in knowledge and experience at the moment to carry them out, should I get asked to.

Do you need to have a special qual to carry them out?

Do you need special insurance other than public liability to do them?

If no special qual's are required, can you do any short courses that specifically teach the ins & outs of carrying out EICR's?

I'm sure anyone could just go to a property and sign their name on an EICR and take the money but I don't want to be that guy! Constructive comments welcome :) Thanks

No course or qualifications will help you with regards to EICRs, people think there are but there are not. You need experience and knowledge of various installations and wiring systems alongside good knowledge of BS7671 past and present classrooms teach you none of this. A few years alongside an experienced person certainly would.

Cheers Westward, do you have any knowledge on the insurance side of things? Some people say one thing, others another! The more I learn about the industry everyday the more confusing everything becomes haha I swear there is not one regulation in BS7671 that every spark can agree on...

insurance wise, you'd need PI ( professional indemnity). this can be an add-on to your PL insurance. basically, it covers you for giving bad advice.

There are no statuary qualifications needed to do EICR'S, nor is scheme membership required.....

Having done the testing and inspection course the tutors expect you to know how to test they don't really teach you, they go over basic stuff you should know enough to get you to a pass grade.
It's worth doing tho as if you work for someone usually your wages do go up(in my experience anyway)and you'll get approved status from the jib(other qualifications also needed)
Experience is key tho so get some help if needed but you'll never get any till you start doing it so good luck and don't be put off

The testing aspect isn't the issue I could teach my mother that it is the visual aspect of the task.
