Hello again.

Apologies if this may sound a bit daft but here goes!

As you may of seen im changing trades & stating my level 2 next month.

I've purchased the study electrical books & also a member on here kindly let me download a book he had.

I understand it's not going to be easy but just wondered if anyone else ever got really confused when they first started to revise or put their head in the book so to speak.....admittedly I'm struggling at the moment as it's hard to take in. It looks foreign at present.

Any tips from fellow members on how they took it in etc I would appreciate, & what should I study more in other words what comes up more then anything etc for the level 2.

I also understand I haven't started yet but would really appreciate how people got their head down, I've got a habit of looking at one thing then flicking to something else which I don't think helps as I'm forgetting what I learned an hour before.

Thank you.

Start with the basics like Ohms law..once you've got this nailed it should clear a few things up.

From what you say it sounds like you have not started the course. Trying to get your head around some of the concepts is going to be difficult out of context. You could say that broadly learning divides insto practical rig building and theoretical/science. If you decided to learn some of the science aspects like the maths for resistivity, or other things like as @Leesparkykent suggested ohms law that will help you to hit the ground running on the course. So rather than linearly reading through the book be selective and concentrate on the science principles one at a time. Get one first then the next. Don't go on until you have mastered it. This forum especially the trainee section will help you with the science aspects, which in many respects is the hardest part for most.

Thanks Lee & Vortigern

Going to get my head down on the science bit, I think I'm trying to run before I can walk.

I sometimes forget that being an electrician is not like being a plasterer etc you've got to put some serious revision in on what is a long journey.

im just trying to blitz through the health and safety module then i can get stuck into science side properly.

any advice for where to grab test rig equipment lads ?

I bought my consumer unit off eBay & the sockets & all from screwfix & I already has a spare bit of 8x4 ply.

Yes the health & safety I pretty much knew from my last trade but likewise the science is a bit of A hurdle
