hi, I've got a customer who is have automatic curtains installed. The motor has a 3 pin plug/transformer and the client isn't liking the idea of running the flex down the wall to the 450mm high socket...don't blame her. Is it acceptable to have the socket hidden up near the curtain track or will this still need a fused spur at socket height???

I see no reason why not, a dedicated socket can be at that height, personally i would do a fused spur at socket height and aq flex outlet connection plate up behind the curtain, but thats in an ideal world when new building and mess is no object, when retro fitting its a different ballgame.

Tell her to get off her fat **** and do it herself or hire someone to shut the curtains for her:)

My thoughts exactly:)

When you say dedicated socket....it'll still be all ok if on the ring main right? I was opting for the fused spurs but the daft things have a molded plug, and if they break in a week or so, which i think they will, the warranty will be no good.

This is the ideal solution, how is the track controlled? We often fit tracks as part of a lighting control system which will close/open the curtains on timers or as parts of scenes in the lighting i.e. when the lights are on scene1 the curtains close.

Depending on the system more wiring may be required. If its a cheap track with a remote Check it's suitable for use in the UK as i have seen some dodgy ones advertised that i dont think are Kite marked etc.
