Got a job coming up soon, Wylex cu rewirables, need to rcd protect either lighting circuit or put local in rcd fcu, what would be the best method to do this at the board? Thanks.

Quote them new CU and bonding too, if not already there. May aswell get them up to standard, then your ok if they ask you do do more work again :).

Not really an option, if they are paying a few grand for a new bathroom they don't want to pay for a cu upgrade, they can't understand why a few lights should cost so much. Cheers

Hey mate.

Could you not take the the lighting circuit out of the wylex board and have a 6A 30mA RCBO in a stand alone enclosure just for this circuit which you could feed off the now empty lighting fuse in the wylex board.

If not then a RCD FCU is probably the only way out.

Thanks for the replies, I'll see how it goes when I get on site, was in a merchants this morning and on offer split board complete £85 maybe in future I will offer to upgrade, price of a local rcbo is not cheap and when you consider the cost of a new board plus all the testing could be a better long term option.

This says it all.
Happy to pay a few grand for a pretty new bathroom, but not a few hundred to protect their family.

Decided on 6A RCBO in stand alone enclosure due to wiring of the light switch (live common) would be messy to get another cable to it for switching, therefore only option is the Rcbo at the board, upstairs lighting fed from plug in mcb, am I ok to feed the Rcbo from this as it will then have two breakers on the same circuit.

Hey.

I dont see a problem with it, you will have your overload protection and fault protection for the circuit, as long as it's all clearly labelled up it's fine.

If you had installed an RCD FCU then there would be two overcurrent devices in the circuit, at least with this they are both at the mains position so minimising confusion if the lights do go out.

Cheers.
