I'm a reporter with BBC Radio 1 Newsbeat - I'm doing a story next week about copper theft - particularly pipes and wire from vans.

we at sec contracting in leeds are constantly having properties in leeds broken in to and all the wiring and pipes ripped out with sink baths boilers they just take every think out they can even take the boards up and get it out. had a few vans robed whilst just loading houses up jump in back of vans and nick any thing they can carry.
especially we find in most this happens in tower block in leeds gambel hill, wortley towers, shakespear towers, lincon green u name it it happened in a tower block

Was talking too a bloke today and he told me a story of when the gypsies went too a town in Radlett, and during broad daylight started taking the road up. They had all the gear and everyone thought they we're reparing a pipe or something, day later all the phones went and they had taken all the telephone wire etc.

People we're bringing them cups of tea whilst it happened! They had no idea

My Sister in Law , Three Days Before the Theft , Saw an Open Ended Lorry with 2 Men in it Looking Through Over the Walls ,
Wonder who it could be ?? Ye, Gypsies , all I got was a Police Number , X--------- , and the Indoors Moaning about her Garden ,

Just over a year ago I was doing seven light industrial units in nottingham, over the course of the xmas break every unit bar one was done over, first day back we had to start again, two weeks later it was all taken out again, even with a 24hour security guard. Next up was easter weekend - you guessed it, all our cable, pipes and a 360 earth mover!

i have today been to a large empty factory in norwich where the copper has started to be stolen mainly large swa at moment we were called in to isolate the buildings fully so "if the thieves come back its all dead so they cant hurt themselves or be killed"
because the landlord is liable.
padlocks on main switches was not enough so we removed the air breakers 1, 1600a and 1, 1250a also the fuses from the older panels and for good mesure hit the panic button for the dno transformer on the way out.

what are things coming to i think it would be better to juice up all the bare ends and watch them fry!!

where i live
they are taking it from anywhere they can, sub stations in westhoughton they took main earths and a few houses set on fire , empty houses just ripping boiler out flooding house or flats even if someone living downstairs, take all copper piping out the houses and just pulling the wires from switches and sockets and ripping it up the wall, any metal including copper, led they taking it even cars of peoples drives and carparks if they look like they dumped or abandoned even if they are not
when i used to do new build, for wainhomes 1 of the sites 4 and 5 bedroom on the other side of tunnel wallesey we fitted all brass accessories, the next day they had all gone and chopped loads of the wiring even took the alarm systems security saw nothing there where only 5 large homes on this site next to a golf course site cabin next to houses and nobody seen nothing bigger the recession hits people the more these Sm???????s seem to steel more should be used as sand bags in afghanistan lol cannon fodder for the taliban

I live in Blackpool, this is beyond a joke...

I do question the security staff contracted out to prevent this type of illegal activity.

Last year I was on a job in a new build shelterd housing in Liverpool and the all the drains where made out off copper, massive building at least 30 big lenghts of it and every weekend for about a month they where all stolen! untill the main contractor fianally got fed up and replaced them all with plastic! ha
