hi all, just been on a job today altering a ring main in a utility room and moving the lights around a bit. was waiting for a plumber to get out me way so went for a wander round.. i then found an oil tank in the back garden with no bonding to it. water has a 10mm. consumer unit is a large mk sentry (my favourite!) so im fine for making stuff rcd etc. the board was changed january this year and i said to customer that they should of bonded the oil at least???? shall i phone them and see if they will do it!??
would fancy doing it me self but it looks a T$at to get to and customer said just leavr it!!

also not broke the seal on the fuse yet to see what raiting it is. but the tails to the board are in 16mm and main earth is 10mm, on a tn-s system. if the fuse is 60A am i right in thinking that 16mm tails and 10mm earth are ok?? but if bigger fuse then earthing is defo undersized??

comments gladly appreciated

Bonding to oil pipe needs doing (deep down you know it ;)), due to the size of the pipe (microbore size usually) I use a bare micc P clip & put a ring terminal on the bonding conductor, which is then nut/bolted to the P clip.

If the service cutout fuse is rated to no more than 60amp you can leave the tails as is but I would make a comment on the cert. I always change the tails to 25/16mm if doing new works such as changing cu, but for MW leave as they are.

im sure it says in the regs for cables up to 25mm csa ,earth should be the same size, then over 25mm it halfs,or have i dreamt it.i,e,16mm tails =16mm earth. 25mm tails =12.5mm earth but there no such animal so you got to use 16mm again.

cheere for that easy, after the day i have had i was starting to think i had imagined it.

not checked out above table but yeah i always thought it was kinda half the size, so 25mm tails get a 16mm earth and 16mm tails , well technically should maybe be a 16 but it is only minor works so may just make a note. i might give this company a ring and see why they didnt bond the oil service, ill do it if they wont but again if the customer dont want me to do it then..??
