How do you guys deal with this on test sheets.? Got a BS88 - Main cut out says 60/80amp on side. but cant see what it actually is .?

Do i have to get the DNO to come out and tell me this or would they have a record of whats actually protecting the property.

Is this a stupid question? am i missing something here.....

Only way to tell AFAIK is take it out but you aren't allowed to do that. The form asks for Nominal Fuse Rating so I put whatever is on the carrier. All the carriers down here say 100A but it is well known the DNO will nly install 80A fuses fr network reasons.

Example . i making an extension, want another shower and loads more DL's demand's come over 60 for sure once i done calcs but i dont know whether i need an up grade or not because i cant see the blinking fuse thats actually protecting my property........ i need upgrade to accommodate but maybe there a 80 in there already?
strange old system we have !

We have no means other than pulling the fuse to see whats fitted, and little influence on what could, or may, be fitted in future, that the question itself in domestic installations is hardly worth including on the certificates

I suppose at least its a box that can be filled in,so at least it is in keeping with modern form filling mania to try to get information recorded by people least able to do so

Yeah well i wasnt going to go into it but yes this thought came out of a situation we have at a house, they want 2 x 10.2 KW showers, plus a whole load more stuff. currently on 60 amp done calcs and actually takes us into the 90amp region. mainly cos the OSG 100% of fl when comes to showers. So been in touch. N.Power came out and had a look after told them and they agreed no way even 80 amp. but they wouldnt fit 100amp as the carrier was to small. we have to get UK power net to deal with the carrier. but this where the dog starts chasing its tail. Power net only want to deal with cable to house wont do carrier. N.power say they wont do anything until they know cable to house can take it and wont do carrier......sooooooooooo i will leave it there.....basically now informed the client that it could poss cost them a whole lot to get that extra shower.....and can you believe that Uk power net want client to fill out a application form send back with A GOOGLE MAP of area and a PLAN view of his consumer unit location in house then and only then they we give him what they call a DESKTOP quote and idea if the cable can take 100amps.......

JOKE......so my org post was basically in wonder how we as sparks are ever meant to get things done and how many out there actually consider what rating the main cut might be before loading a house up with more and more .....Does it matter some might say...? all i know is i had a headache after being on phone for 1 1/2 to these people

yeah NEDL request site plans as well...!! its to do with boundarys and / possible extensions...!! it ensures thay have an upto date version of the clients property!

nedl require land registry plans..! wont accept google maps!

Wouldn't admit to that in public!

Thats nothing, if you want to raise eyebrows, the next time Npower, B Gas or whoever ask you in a shop entrance if you want to save money by changing supplier, just say "no thanks as I'm an electrician, I've bypassed the meter" wait for the pause and say "Joke".
