you are supposed to be doing the wiring under the supervision of the person who is going to sign it off as his own work. So he needs to supervise.

Hence my advice to ring the guy Ted. By rights he should be inspecting the cable runs as they pass through the under floor space and up or down the walls before they are covered over by plaster or floorboards, get on the phone. He's the one with his name on the cert, make him earn his money

Ted, this electrician of yours. Is he a Part P approved contractor?

The work you have described will need notifying to the Local Authority Building Control.

The work you are doing on his behalf needs to be inspected and tested in it's entirety by the person signing the work off so I would not fill chases or refit any boards that you have had to lift to run the cables.

If for any reason the spark you are using is not Part P registered then you may wish to contact the LABC to arrange them to inspect and test work before ANY work commences, during and on completion.

If this work does not get signed off appropriately using one of the two options available then you may find that you could end up 1) Not being able to sell your home in the future 2) Your home insurance policy may become null in void and 3) Not very likely but you and the electrician completing the work could be prosecuted and fined up to £5,000.

Oh there is always number 4) The risk of the house burning down or risk of serious injury or death if electrical work is not completed as per the very detailed schedule in design, installation and inspection and testing

I agree with others, in that you really should contact your electrician direct as ultimately, he will be responsible for signing the installation certificate.
