I'm looking for some advice on courses.
I've been speaking to my local college, they tell me I can do City & Guilds 2394 / 2395 in 30 weeks (evening classes) Cost around £800

They say they will accept me on to the course with 17th edition and the 2392 basic course I’m about to do 26th June this year.

Should I do the 2394 & 2395 or the NVQ3 ?
My longer term goal is to be self employed, currently working as a electricians’ mate through an agency.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

How long have you been a mate for? Over 5 years?

No mate, more like 5 months :-)

I think it would be best to complete your nvq3 including AM2. completing your nvq will at least make you eligible for an installation electrician jib card. The 2394/2395 is an add on really to your core qualifications and nvq3, I would highly recommend that you also do these quals but I think your priority should be 2365 level 2&3, am2 and nvq3.

I decided to do these courses 2394/ 2395, because when I search for the type of job I want
they are asking for 2391 not JIB membership.

HA ha I have to pass the 2392 practical assessment on 26th June so the college will accept me.

I sat the 2394 last night and the 2395 tonight, (written exams). All i will say is read Guidance note 3 everyday and then read it some more.

The online exam is a piece of cake, but a good knowledge of BS7671 is definitely vital to pass it. Not doing the practicals until next month though.

Best of luck with it all mate.

Thanks mate, same to you.
Do you have to wait long for the results of your written exams?

How do you feel it went? Was there many typical C&G badly worded questions?

Overall ok i think mate.

I didn't find the wording of the questions to bad really.

All that said, i am not sure if i did enough to get through yet and only time will tell. One things for sure, if i have to resit then at least i will have a better knowledge of the books at the other end of it all.

The questions on EFLI were based on AMD3 values also, suppose i had get the new GN3 & BS7671 now July is fast approaching.

You seem to have done the work, so you're not having to sweat it out on whether you've passed. :-)

I am not worried at all mate, a resit does not cost too much, our college messed up so we got the 2394/5 combined for £150 as an apology basically. Hopefully i did enough this time around though.

Happy days. £150 that's a right result.

Yes mate totally. To top it all off, i was off work with a broken Tibia & Fibula, so the college not having a site assessor worked in my favour and bided me some time anyway lol. Happy days all in all. (Except the leg)
